Hello All

I'm looking to purchase a diesel focus 1.6 or 2.0 and have narrowed it down to a titanium model estate. Seems like a fairly practical car and looking at the 2008-2010 facelifted model.

Just a couple of questions, the 1.6 seems to very economical but is the 2.0 a better drive all round? Worried about the 110bhp in the 1.6 being underpowered especially on the motorway. Also, do the titaniums that have sat Nav from factory still have the Sony RDS Stereo as standard? 8 speakers? Finally, if anyone has some feedback on this model please share. I haven't driven it yet.

Thanks smile

I know this is not what you have asked but have you thought about the 1.8TDCI ?

I test drove the 1.6 TDCi and the 2.0 TDCi in a C-MAX, essentially a taller version of the estate.

The 1.6 TDCi Was OK whilst driving around A,B roads but once on a Motorway, it felt underpowered.

The 2.0 TDCi has been with me now for 4 years, Bought with 10k and now has 45k. It's a 2.0TDCi Zetec-S. Biggest problem I have with it is it seems to love to eat tyres!! But that may just be a combination of my driving style and the state of the potholed roads!

I'm using it more for commuting now and averaging 47mpg or 510 miles per tank of fuel, which is not bad for a 55 litre tank.

I looked at the 1.8tdci but it's 115bhp, which seems to be a kind of a pointless in-between engine confused

Motorway driving is my gripe with 1.6tdci I know you will probably be able to tell it's underpowered. I may well go for the 2.0tdci as they are more or less the same price used. 47-50mpg is fine on a run. Generally I find the smaller engines on the motorway are about the same mpg as your pushing it more.

I had the same dilemma when I was thinking about buying a Focus three years ago. I test drove the 110bhp 1.6 and the 2.0. I drive the 90bhp version at work, so knew how tedious they were. The 110 was ok, but in the end I decided I couldn't live with that little power (my commute is mainly on rural roads so I wanted some oomph for overtaking) so I settled on the 2.0 TDCi. I had it remapped almost straight away and it's been a great daily driver. Still averages 48mpg and being the Titanium has all the goodies too. Like someone else said here, it does go through front tyres a little quick - I guess that's a heavy diesel engine and lots of low-down torque that does that though. Mine has the Sony MP3 headunit with the 8 speakers too. I think the Titaniums all came with that. Mine was the "basic" Titanium, so no climate control, cruise control, leather interior or heated seats etc. I did see several with those extras, but they were all too far away from me. Also, the 2.0 comes with the six-speed gearbox, which I think is much nicer to use.
