Which LMP/group C cars of the past would make good road cars
Discussion
just wondering at what point in the past would a replica of an LMP or Group C car make a good road car. at what point would it start to become questionable as to how much you could use it on the road.
P4, GT40, sure....
Sauber C8 and C9?
Porsche 962?
at least these were road based engines,
Mazda 787B?
Beltley Speed 8?
Peugot 908?
Audi R18?
what do you think would be the minimum you cold live with in a road going version.......

Any of them as long as you alter them to have..
Suitable ground clearance with necessary suspension tweaks.
Suitable softer ride
Engine reliability with cooling for static / stop start driving
Overall reliability
In cabin cooling and or heating
Some sort of weather sealing
Good low idle driving characteristics
Good driving position for yourself
Field of view and vision
A will of iron to make IVA or area compliance ( forget USA as they can drive mowers across country aka the straight story) haha
Etc etc
If any of the above are compromised it will, after a while, becomes a road legal car that stops in the garage or a non road legal car that stops in the garage

Interesting thread...
Could you get any of them through IVA with the lights being so low?
I know there are 'games' to play with raising the suspension or having 'temporary' light units mounted higher up for the IVA but I thought they were carcking down on that?
I guess e-marking the glass etc might be tricky expensive but the rest should be fairly simple...
Craig learned a lot with his SLC, which isn't too far off this concept (hence why I've spoken to Fran about a 962).

If I do ever get to start another project then the F1 would be it, but a friend has a head start on me so Maybe the Body would be the easy bit....

To win the lottery would only mean I have more money to build what I wanted, the act of building and learning new skills is one of the things thats gives me a buzz..... Would I buy some cool cars yes, but what would i do the rest of the time ???

I agree - The designing/ building is most of the fun for me.To win the lottery would only mean I have more money to build what I wanted, the act of building and learning new skills is one of the things thats gives me a buzz..... Is your friend the guy who had pics posted on GT40s of his F1 replica, a few years back? I think it was the same guy who designed Andy's suspension for his GTT?
That looked awesome but I don't think the thread was ever updated or a build thread doesn't exist?!

Its a one off Personal car, so I don't think he wants to go into selling them and then theres a certain Legal department if you know what I mean...
That's what I understood, so I assume it is the same guy. I still have the pictures of his car, somewhere. Workmanship looked excellent!Same person that Clive is talking about, but I'm pretty sure the guy would NEVER post pics up online or have a thread he's way to private for that... Someone did however once post pictures they had taken of his project.
Both Clive's and mine share DNA from this guys design/project :-)

I wish you two would hurry up!Both Clive's and mine share DNA from this guys design/project :-)
As much as I love your Noble (and I really do) - I really want to see the GTT build thread moving!
Clive could also pull his finger out, a little more, for my tastes

I just spoke to Fran about a 962, the other day, and yet I've now started looking at investment property again. I need to get my priorities in order!

Im planning to kick start the GTT body soon, I just don't have storage for the moulds I already have so even more will be a serious problem lol

I am making progress on the GTT... the dash binnacle in the noble is for the GTT as well and I have just started making my own design of seats that will of cause be carbon/kevlar and go in both cars

I shall be holding my breath in the meantime
