I'm about to to a track day in the Peril.

Lots of run off areas, guest at a private track event so not many cars.

I have driven the Cerb, but as a rule it's Ray's baby so he drives it most weekends as I don't like to spoil his fun.

But I want to get to grips with it and drive it 'in anger' if you like

Any advice.............

Avoid the green bits

If any professional advice or driver is available let them take you out for a few laps to show you the lines and braking points.
If not then get to know the track first, drive around carefully for 2 to 3 laps then come back in (being aware of others though and obeying the rules of the track). Think of them as exploratory laps just so you know where everything is, then go out again and do a few more, increasing your speed as you go.

It's easy to say don't push too hard too soon as the temptation will be there when you are out there, but don't.

When you are comfortable with the track, lines & braking points then :-

And enjoy yourself.

I've probably forgotten something but I'm sure it'll be mentioned by someone else

PS Just remembered, keep an eye on tyre pressures, water and oil. Bit obvious really, I know

Hi Pauline

Drive at your own pace - you will be amazed how soon you will find your speed getting quicker & quicker.

And make sure someone shows you the best lines into & out of the corners - when we did ours this year I was able to add a fantastic amount to my speed out of the corners by taking the correct line into them (whilst pushing the back end out, great fun)

Dont be afraid to ask questions on the day.

Have fun

Pauline,

Unless you're really confident (or arrogant) you'll be so nervous your first time out that you'll no be pushing hard enough to do any peril.

By the 2nd half of the day you'll get more confident and start to push things a little and start really enjoying yourself.

Never heard of many first-timers doing damage, always seems to be the inbetween people who have enough confidence to out-drive themselves!

Thanks for that......all noted...

All advice welcome cos I sure am nervous about it.
I will have Ray sitting beside me......don't know whether that's good or bad though..

Will be good to think he can give me advice on lines, but I always prefer to drive the Peril without him sitting next to me like a rigid stick ....

If Ray is sitting behind you he'll have more to worry about than you driving the car, like ever being able to walk again!

Podie spent some time in that position back in June and hasn't been the same since

I just did my first track day a few weeks ago.
Thought it was great!!
We did 4 sessions of 5 laps, each lap was 1.5 miles.
The other cars on the track with me were suped up saxo's etc so a lot slower than the cerb. This was a good thing as I could potter along with them for the first couple of sessions. Once I gained a bit of confidence on the last sessions I started to overtake, once in the lead I then started to really enjoy myself!!
Take your time at first until your happy, I found it a lot different to driving on the road due to the cambers of the track and it took a bit to get used to.
It was also amazing the difference between 1st/2nd laps when it took time for the tires to warm.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it!!

Which circuit is the track day at? "Plenty of runoff" implies somewhere like Bedford Autodrome, where you've got no chance of passing the noise regs!

Hi Carl....not a problem...have some nice, big, ugly can things that go on the back....brings it down to 99.9 dbcs

It's at Bruntingthorpe....so no problem there either as I believe there is no restriction.

Thing is...I love the straights.....will go as fast as you like down any straight... 175 at Brunters 2 miler......but....it's the corners......I don't much like corners.

Still hopefully by the end of the session, I'll be wanting more....

Now ...how that will go down with my other half...who's to say?

When you park up after a run out, leave it in gear and the handbrake off.
This stops the rear brakes sticking to the discs, and the brakes cooling, then letting your motor roll into the car in front. (Isaw this at Mallory a couple of years ago, small scrape to front of a chimp, rear right of an exige totally trashed)

Chocks are useful if you're going to do this.

Personally, I have a set of trackday rims with worn tyres on that I use for trackdays. With ordinary tyres you get block shift, which overheats the tyres and they melt

Make sure oil is on or even above 'full mark' on the dip stick. I understand Topcats always overfill their racing Tuscan by a litre to minimise oil starvation. Also check throughout day, depending how hard it is driven.

Also watch cold tyres, if you take a break from the track for awhile. Last day out I joined, first car out after lunch went straight in to the wall on first corner !

Then enjoy - they are great fun and the Cerb is a fantastic car to drive on the track.

On a similar note always try and do a cooling down lap before going back in the pits, gets some cold air in those brakes when they're not being thrashed.
