Whilst at the centenary event on Sunday i saw a couple of the V12 Zagato's for the first time - lovely cars, in my eyes, they are exceptionally styled and i really like the rear shape and lights.

Pretty sure i noticed somewhere that it shares its 'technical' elements with the V12V - so is the V12 Zagato essentially a V12V with a new shell?

Seems like a LOT of extra £££ for just a shell and a Z badge?!

Yup thats pretty much it - it's the same car under the skin, but in fairness the level of bespoke on the interior was a fair bit higher too.

That said it is pretty much an additional £200k for a "go faster" body.

yes, yes & yes

I guess this is a car only bought by those who can 'comfortably' afford it (£400k incl tax base price), rather than say a 100-150k car which in some instances is more of a squeeze for buyers. I guess (some of) those people in such a position don't need to justify a purchase like this in quite the same way and can let their heart rule their head - I'm not knocking those people (quite the opposite), just pointing out that whilst there has been a lot of criticism from me & others for the reasons you mention, by definition the car isn't aimed at people like us :-)

Yes, i can understand why they would create it, if the market is there, and it's limited production etc, then why not. Good opportunity to make a few extra £££!

But I guess if you're sitting on multi-millions and you love the car, then go for it, but, wow, an extra £200K for a body shell and some stitching..! eek

(presumably resale in the future will skyrocket like most Zagato's!)

FYI, the interior is actually not that different - other than the special weave upholstery option, the only difference to regular V12V interior is a carbon fibre section to the lower centre console (the sides of the central switchgear and then running back to the central arm rest) and a few Z badges.

this was a project that never quite came out in the way it was originally envisaged

it was originally intended to differ a little more mechanically from the donor car but be price a little more cheaply

hence it not selling very well compared to original target and being pushed on the sales front for far far longer than originally intended

they either have to do a run of just 10-20 cars on a project like this to make it significantly more exclusive, drop the price or offer a performance advantage - without any of those 3 factors, a project like this at that price level was always going to be much admired but far harder to sell out

Maybe, with a little joined up thinking, the Zag could have had V12Vs knickers on as well as a new dress - just to really set it apart mechanically from the "standard" car........ Then come along with the S when they're all sold.

Yes.
The Zagato designers always place great importance on the shape of bodywork.

Didn't get a pic of the grey one, it was unplated, just had Aston plates on it, so presume it was new.

Yep I suspect the S launch was always intended for after the Zag
They should have used the S for the Zag then released a descoped version in the std body
