Discussion
Hi all,
After nearly 9 months of procrastination I finally bought a 2007 V8 Vantage. I previously had a TT (currently on Pistonheads classified!). The Aston has taken a bit of getting used to but I love it!
Yesterday morning during my short trip to work the "Emission serviced required' warning light came on. Should I be worried? Do I need to take it to a dealer?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hello, welcome and congratulations.
Firstly, no-one here is going to believe you've bought a Vantage without pictures!
Secondly, you need to post pictures!!!! (And spec)
With regards to that warning, no, it may go out on its own or you can read and reset the message with a OBD Reader (someone will be along soon with a link for the right one)
It's a fairly common issue and worse case is probably an O2 sensor. Try. The search function, there's been plenty of discussion on this issue.

Congratulations, your new car looks beautiful. The thrill of ownership does not wear off.The warm reaction by other road users is great.
Advice - When giving your friends and neighbours a ride, best to warn them just before you
floor the throttle in first, or second gear.
Enjoy - you will.
Jon.
Congrats on the new car, looks great, black is the best colour ;-)
Had mine 2 weeks now and also had the emissions service message, which after demonstrating the vantages superior performance to a boxster driver tonight, has turned itself back off again. Do Astons dislike Porsches..?
I bought the U480 reader off amazon 10 mins ago based upon lots of recommendations.

Congratulations Hanny on your Roadster, lets hope the sun stays out and enjoy.....
Lee,
Just ignore the Porsches and keep on cruising, remember your in an Aston now so a stately pace and a cheery smile is all thats needed to enrage Porsche Man and potentially
tip him over the edge in his quest for automotive world domination.

Hi and congratulations.
I had the same message happen to me a few weeks ago. Here is my post and the advise on there is great.

I bought the OBD2 reader (link in my post) from amazon for £13.99 delivered.
However before I took delivery of the diagnostics unit , I took the car to Aston in Reading and they charged me £300 to diagnose and change the O2 sensor (one of).
I wished I actually bought the OBD2 device first and reset it my self. Because the next day (after i picked the car up from AM) the message came on again. i took it back to aston and kicked off. they said that its now the other sensor that has gone and needs to be changed. What a coincidence!!
i then kicked off again and suggested that they incorrectly diagnosed my problem in the first place and changed the wrong sensor or didn't change the sensor at all.. After a few emails back and forth and a call from the mananger, they (reluctantly) agreed to change the other O2 sensor for free.
Alot of inconvenience at a price. I will now be resetting the message myself if it comes up again, however the 2 new sensors now have a full 12 months warranty with them in case it happens again.
My recommendation is to buy the unit and reset it. If it constantly keeps coming on again then get the sensors changed.
Cheers

Looks like it's a common problem, I may need some advice as what to do once I get the Reader!
