I would say it's a super car now, is that what the mass's wanted from this car ?
GTR wiz bangs all thrown at it ?

I am not so sure and will never get to drive one either so who cares lol.

but the good news is, if all modern cars go this way, the price of my car will rocket up :-)

this it seems is still noticeable though.

"During tiny steering inputs - the kind you make on a bumpy road - or for the first fraction of turn-in, there's a momentary delay, as if there's a bit of slack."

I doubt I will even see one on track, I never see later GT3 RS on track either, goodness knows where they are all hiding if 80% of GT3's go on track, as I very much doubt that figure.

but this is the killer comment
"I think the focus has shifted slightly, moving marginally away from driver interaction towards pure speed"

I sense this with the new 991GT3 - very few will actually be used on track. Most track users will want something more analogue.

The new GT3 is appealing to a different market, many of whom would never have bought a hardcore GT or RS model, but want to buy into this ethos without too much compromise. Porsche recognise that this is a bigger market and it makes commercial sense.

I think it LOOKS amazing.

Wonder what the GFV is after three years, anyone know?

I seriously doubt many will be spec'd with clubsport pack.

But probably worth £80k, that's cheap motoring.

I see 997.2 GT3s at every track day I attend, although I think the economic impact over the last few years has reduced the number of track days many GT3 owners can justify. Whereas some may have been tracked every other week in the past, perhaps it's only every other month now.

Paddles don't discourage the Strad, Scud, Supperleggy, M3 CSL, Lotus Cup Car, Radial etc users from using their cars on track. I understand your comment as it the new GT3 will appeal to a wider ordinance now, but they're still built in relatively low numbers and most of the UK allocations have been filled by people who already track their Pork. The new GT3 is going to be an absolute weapon, why not track it?

Check the prospective GT3 owners thread, I think you'll find the majority are being specced with it.

In what way does it make commercial sense? It's a limited numbers car, they have always sold out, and there has always been a queue of dissappinted people looking for an allocation.

So why dilute the ethos by putting in a PDK box? (And only a PDK box) All they'll do - as the article hypothesises also, is take sales away from the turbo.

Because they are chasing faster lap and headline 0-62 times.

Lets face it, Porsche need to keep up with technology and compete with their competitors. It's all well and good us all saying we want a manual gearbox, but if that means the GT3 can't perform on par with it's peers then people will stop buying them.

If I want a truly manual car and have little interest in outright pace or lap times, then I'd buy a 964 and get it properly set up. There's little more enjoyable than that, I'll just don't expect to keep up with my mates!

I don't like the standard PDK box, I just haven't gelled with it and when I first put my LOI in for the new GT3 I told myself that if it was PDK only I'd pull out, but the more I learn about this car the more I want it. Having spoken to Andreas personally about the car, I'm confident that I won't be disappointed.

As Andreas said, this is a different PDK box, designed specifically for the GT3. It has been designed to perform like a sequential race box rather than a 'sporty' automatic box.

With the media quoting lines like "the best car Porsche have ever made" and "the best sports car in the world", I find it rather amusing that people are still banging on about the same old mooted points.

Yes, but it's not a real GT3 and if it's not a true driver's car unless it's a manual etc...

Repeat ad infinitum...

GTR's 458's & MP4's - competitors at different price points.

You seem to miss out the quotes where all the journalists are saying it's a real shame they got rid of the manual box.

I think you'll also find the same journalists that today say it's the best thing since sliced bread, will, once the next iteration is unveiled, say it was actually slightly flawed and the new version fixes all those flaws and NOW it's the best thing since sliced bread (Monkey Harris included)

Andreas Preuninger works for Porsche - what's he going to say, it's crap?

No doubt it's an amazing car, and Porsche need to keep up with the Jonses, but they should have found a better way to keep up the never ending stats race rather than remove one of the defining characteristics of the GT3, or at least give the punters a choice between boxes.

100pct agree with the below.. GT3 are used on track.. And should be.. Just maybe at different events than mainstream ones.. I was at a goldtrack silverstone gp day and was full of gt3 and RS.. Not to mention 458s and the likes..

And really don't see why pdk takes away appeal on track.. All the hardcore beast there including race catheram a and gt-specced exotica were on race boxes and didn't seem to really get bored ;-)

Guys, game has moved on and gt3 goes with it. There was no way they could have done otherwise.

Slightly hijacking the thread but I test drove 2 of the new Boxsters at the weekend..2.7 Manual and a 3.4s mega specced with Pdk..if I had to choose id take the 2.7..Pdk was horrible imo..unsympathetic in its operation and car felt out of control..having said that I hated the Csl smg box for similar reasons so it may just be me...sounds like you are going to break something everytime you change gear!!

I agree, though I found the DCT box on the newer BMW's better than the Porsche PDK.

Each to their own, but i found the PDK on the courtesy Boxster that I borrowed recently to be excellent fun (and an improvement on previous PDK gearboxes).

Most importantly the PDK is a highly developed "sports" version of the latest PDK and seems to be very highly regarded in all of the reviews...
