Unfortunately I have written off my Cerbera :-(
My insurance have offered me to buy it back which I may well do but am, and I know this is blasphemous, but thought maybe now is time for a change. I can't see me really driving anything other than a Cerbera but for around 16-17k I could get an Aston Martin DB7 or I have seen a very very nice Jag XK8 for 14,500.

Will I regret it if I changed? I feel i would. I have never had any issues with my Cerbera it has never let me down or cost me any money more than any other car would. But I do like the idea of driving an Aston Martin it is the only Make that could possibly top TVR in my opinion.
What are the thoughts from the PH collective.

FFS man - have you lost your mind?!!

Just get Dave to work his magic and book for Spa in October smile.

Astons are lovely of course, but I think you're a TVR man personally.

Hope that's helpful? laugh

Yes you would, both autos, slow and an bit wooly compared to the Cerb.

You've taken the hit on the Cerb now, fix her up and use her again.

Are we talking the new or old shape XK ?

I'd have either Jag over the DB7, really looking a bit dated now IMO...

Having driven both new and old XKR's they are great cars but nothing compared to a Cerb in the "sporting" stakes, they are GTs and nowhere near as much fun in the twisty bits.

Lovely sounding engines with the right exhaust though.

By the way, it would HAVE to be an XKR not and XK8 following a Cerb, you'd wonder where all the power had gone. Of course you wont get a new shape XKR for that money.

New, new 5.0 XKR would be very very tempting but they are silly money and will sink in value far to quickly to even contemplate unless you've money to burn.

Ah balls, it's a great car yours Mark, I would buy it back and sort it out. Ok it'll be on the register but so what. Think off all the trips you two have had together, you can't let one of the breakers get hold of her to be torn apart.
Come on you know you want to. Just think if you saw her being driven about or someone turns up here with her all fixed up, you'll feel like you found your best mate lying in your bed wearing your dressing gown whilst smoking your finest cigar.

I think the DB7 is lovely but the straight 6 engined ones are crap. Any modern diesel or hot hatch will hold one off no problem. Pretty car but far too slow to even be a proper GT. A DB7 Vantage with the 6.0 V12 is more like it, but you won't get one of those for Cerbera money. And even a DB7 Vantage is still just a wafter - it's just in the 5ish seconds to 60 bracket so hardly stellar rather than the 6+ seconds of the supercharged 3.2 litre.

Jag XK family? Yes nice cars. X100s suffer from rust in some key structural and cosmetic areas and are not in any way set up for spirited driving. XK8s are slow - minimal appreciable performance difference from my wife's X-Type daily driver. X100 XKRs are back in to the late 90s target bracket of 5.notmuch seconds to 60 and still on the soft side to drive. Lovely cars to go cruising in and they do have a bit of poke, but it's not a Cerbera replacement. The 4.2 litre X150s are nice enough cars but aging aluminium bodies bring their own special brand of corrosion issues and if you think Cerberas are expensive to own with their rusty steel tubes to replace - you ain't seen nothing until you've found a bodyshop that will work, prep and paint an aluminium body.

What exactly is the damage? Do you have any pics? Someone on here might be interested in saving it...

Ouch. Really sorry to hear that mark. <standard tripe> it's only a car, at least you're ok </>

I think you should repair it and keep it and do some upgrades in the process. How bad is the damage? If you really are sick of it I can imagine a few here, me included, would be interested in finding out more about its state&price...... But I think you should fix it.

Cerb is MUCH cooler than a db7 dude. Like, different league. You can get nice vantages now for 30k, they maybe make a case for themselves, but they are t sports cars - they are GTs.

I seriously miss my cerb, best car I've driven for all round fun, looks and noise. Love em

Mark, sad to hear about your car after all of those years of fun, if your heart is in it then get it back together and continue to enjoy it. It does however sound like you fancy a change, the Aston carries prestige but it is dated inside and out, the Jag is nice but again if it is not the "R" then lacks pace as well as looks (although I do have a soft spot for them). I currently drive a CLS55 AMG and whilst it is very marmite with regards to peoples opinion on its looks, I love it. I see it as a modern real 4 seat version of the Cerb, ok it doesn't have the sense of occassion of the Cerb, but it very well built, has plenty of options, but above all has a cracking AMG engine with silly power and rear wheel drive.......

Jules.

I was looking at Astons a while ago my friend went from a Griff to an Aston V8 Vantage and a stunning car, but I just could not leave the TVR marque and ended up buying a Stunning Griff a Tuscan (which is up for sale) and a T350, still own half the Cerb

Hope that answers your question

Well, i would say i agree with the above and keep her, but what kind of damage are we talking?

Your Cerbs looks (did look) very nice.
So perhaps i would be interested in saving her

I am lucky enough to have both. I have a Cerb and a DB7 Vantage Volante. You can not compare them at all. The Aston is a manual so is very rare. One of only 118 manual Vantage Volantes made. It is so much more pleasant to drive. It is smoother more relaxed and more comfortable, but it seriously lacks the sheer seat of your pants exhileration you get from the Cerb. As it's a 6ltr V12 it is a hell of a lot more money to run ie £1300 for a plug and coil change and the Cerb is almost frugal compared to the Aston. Even though the Aston is a fast car, it aint cerb fast. The Cerb is an agressive car where as the Aston is a gentlemans car that I am quite happy to woft around in. What I do notice is that peopld really do love an Aston. I wouldnt go for the i6 DB7 after a Cerb, it would just feel too slow. Childish I know but there really is something special about saying 'shall we take the Aston dear'? But my passion stays with the Cerb, it is such a different and special car. Very very sadly, and after 10 years I may have to sell my beloved Cerb as the wife who is now disabled really struggles to get into it.

Also very sorry to hear the news of a smashed TVR... and a Cerb (Oh No) weeping

Mark took a look at your profile and was about to have the pleasure of looking at the collection of video's you have posted.... But is it just me?? None of them are showing Mark..

Not had the pleasure of driving a Cerbera or Aston but XKR yes... I have a Chimaera and I think that's more joy than an XKR but from a Cerb eek.

What ever your outcome is Mark, you walked away from a wreck and will be walking towards a choice of Three lovely cars...

I think if you posted a pic of the damage we might all give a better answer to fix or walk.

Good luck and hope only your pride and heart has been injured .

I echo the above statements. Don't let the old girl go now, she needs you more than ever.
