Hi,

gearchanges are getting increasingly difficult.
Seems the clutch is giving up shortly.

What is the latest news on clutches?
Would you recommend going AP or Raceproved for fast road driving?
Any other to consider?

Many thanks and best regards!

The recommended route seems to be latest AP clutch unit with Raceproved slave and get it set up properly to help the life of the release fingers. I can't comment on the slave as every time I've needed one they haven't had any stock.

There seems to be issues with the current slave seal kits at the moment. Speaking with the mechanic who does my servicing, they have had several fail after only a few miles (less than 500 ish) as the seal edges start to fray. The earlier ones would go soft if certain brake fluid was used too apparently!

I had the clutch, flywheel and slave seals replaced before Le Mans this year only for the slave to start sticking on the way down, it just wouldn't release quickly which left me with a drivable car, but one I had to nurse there and back.

The slave was replaced with a RaceProved one which has lasted at least twice as long so far... The guys who do my servicing have said that they have never seen a RaceProved one fail and are recommending these are used instead of a re-sealed original.

Before taking it apart bleed the clutch & check the master cylinder seals. The key when fitting a new slave and seals if you have too, is make sure there is no sharp edges on the slave components, use plenty of red grease on the seals when assembling and dont pinch the seals when fitting them the the slave components. Also im told do not use synthetic clutch fluid...it rots the seals.Do all this and you should get good life out of the slave cylinder and seals.

There seems to be 3 clutches on the market:

1. genuine-ap-racing-twin-plate-clutch
2. uprated-ap-racing-twin-plate-clutch
3. Raceproved clutch (it seems it has to be fitted by Raceproved themself)

The AP clutch was and is the wrong clutch for the car, but as all the dealers/indies say

keep the car original (keep us in work)

Standard clutch
Standard clutch slave
Tvr powers seals fit the best
Use only rubber grease when assembling the seal kits
We have had the best results over the years

Still no reply from Raceproved and an other seller yet.
A shame, as I am still quite happy with the Raceproved assembly in the
Tuscan.
Immediate reply came from TVR Power recommending the genuine clutch
and their slave. Thanks Andy! thumbup
So the order is with them now and mind you, everything on stock and already on its way either.

clap

I'm not sure this is the case any more? They used to do their own rebuilt modified clutch packs but understand there were some issues with early failures.

Yeah - send your car in for service. They'd "discover" your clutch was low on friction material. Offer to put in an RP one but then keep your old clutch, get their own fingers and friction plates added and sell it to the next customer. They didnt work out well for many customers afaik.

Is there a problem getting original clutches for the S6?

I ask because I am coming back into the fold very soon and planned to have the 4.3 TVR Power upgrade for the new car (as I was going to build a Cobra, but when I looked at one, I didn't get the same feeling I had when I first saw the Tamora...)

If part are hard to get, or there are a million and one rip off merchants out there, just waiting to relieve a good natured TVR owner of his/her hard earned, I may go for an LS3 swap-out instead....

ETA - having read quite a few posts on the TVR forums about how people have spent thousands and getting nothing but shoddy work is a real worry.

AFAIK there isn't a problem getting hold of the AP clutches.
