The cage looks to be of much use as a chocolate teapot, but the car will look good once you've finished with it, I am sure

Just out of interest, what makes you say that? I'm not clued up when it comes to cages

It has plates welded to the underside of the car and is firmly bolted in, also has a cross bar going across passenger foot well.

Mainly because of the large kink in the cage that was presumably made to clear the dashboard; the tube is very likely to concertina when any kind of load is placed on it i.e. during a heavy roll. The idea of a cage is to transfer load to structural or reinforced areas of a car, and tubes do not do this well under bending (that kink) - you've more than likely seen the principle demonstrated by someone standing on an empty drinks can, which then collapses when the can wall is compromised (bent).

Cages should also ideally transfer load to specific points in the shell rather than other areas of the cage, therefore it is best design practice for tubes to meet at the same points on the floor or if needs be corners of the cage, rather than half way along another tube.

As said though, that cage will bend quite easily when any sort of force is applied to it.

Not sure on brakes, are GTR ones bigger? These are bigger that my old GTS for sure

Yep GTR ones are a little bigger but may still struggle on track
