I faffed about getting the Panasonic TX-P50VT50 a couple of months ago, and now of course they're not available any more!

So, what should I be looking at?

Budget is £1k or thereabouts, 50" screen, want smart TV features and something fairly futureproofed (as much as you can with this technology). Not fussed about LCD or plasma. Mostly Freeview & DVDs being watched. Room does get strong sunlight (south facing) although viewing direction is E to W.

I see the 50GT50 is a similar price at but I do baulk at buying a "less good" TV for the same money the 50VT50 was a couple of months ago!! (Having said that, I have just checked back ad can't find the 50GT50 for sale anywhere...)

What about the Samsung PS51E8000 and 6500?

Panasonic 50VT50
They're all ex display or returns, this was the case a month or more ago when I rang them.

Ah bugger. The P55VT50 I bought a couple of weeks ago was listed in the same manner, and turned out to have a tear in the box but was otherwise unopened. Full 5yr warranty too.

Yeah, I'm sure some of them were like that, just don't want to spank a grand on something that has fingerprints all over it! biggrin

Tdm34, is the new gt60 really better than the old vt50? Richer sounds have it for £1200 with a 5 year warranty...

Makes sense to me smile, I was up to date on the models last year and we were about to go for a 42VT30 but the GT50 was coming out so we were advised to wait.
When the reviews came out they said the new GT was better than the old VT so we went for that smile.

You have to come to me unfortunately but I think the price makes up for that.....

And mine has the official Panasonic warranty

Have a look at the latest Sony W9 series, very impressed with the picture quality.

Good set actually, but the 46" inch version is over £1500, so puts it up against the 50VT65 Panny, and as
good as the Sony is it can't match the VT65 or the GT60 for that matter....

Got a chance to look at a 50gt60b in RS yesterday (well, the 50vt65 which I understand uses the same panel/processing) and was mighty impressed. Weirdly their website says 1299 where it said 1199 the other day but they said 1199 in the shop. Also had a look at the txl47dt65b led and that looked very good too, albeit slightly smaller and over budget.

I think the only thing stopping me going for the gt60 are worries about performance in bright light - our living room is south facing...

Assuming it's anything like my VT50, it'll be fine.
