windscreen claim under insurance

How does this affect premiums? Mine has a 100 quid excess.

I know it doesn't affect my NCD but that's not the same as not affecting premiums. also anyone know where is the best place to replace 997 windscreens?

I had a windscreen replacement last year (£70 xs) and my insurance renewal 6 months later was considerably less than the previous (pre windscreen) year.

Hokum, it's not clear what effect claiming for a windscreen has on your overall risk assessment, and it will vary from insurer to insurer. For example, (AFAIK) Swift Cover will suspend your NCD (for a year IIRC) after making a glass claim. Many online insurance quotation providers will ask if you've previously made a windscreen claim.

All insurance activity is however recorded on the Claims and Underwriters Exchange database (CUE).

Your £100.00 excess does seem higher than the current average, is it Equity Red Star?

Some insurance companies insist that you use Autoglass, so if that is the case with yourself. Make sure the car is spotless before the work is started and inspect it with a fine tooth comb when they are finished.

They managed to leave black blobs of windscreen prep (I think) all over my bonnet! Luckily they have agreed to pay for a respray (4 weeks later!)

Another vote for Glassman. He recently fitted a heated windscreen in my Stratos replica. It was a complicated job and he did it perfectly.

The Manning/Amlin insurance provides for genuine Porsche replacement screen not some cheap pattern part. Give them a call to verify.

As mentioned, Mannings windscreen excess is £100 for an installer of your choice or £60 for a 'standard' install

I had who windscreens replaced last year. One in my 997, which Paragon arranged when the car was with them, and billed me for. I submitted the bill to my insurer, Aviva and was refunded within the week. No increase in premium.

The other was in my VW CC, which was done by autoglass who billed me only for the excess £50 or so. Carried out at home, very ably, happy to have me watch and tell me what each stage was. No problems at the time or since. Again no increase in premium.

In most cases. It's a contentious subject and a few, Admiral, Churchill and Direct Line will rely on some wording written into the Key Facts of the policy. IMHO, this is a salient point and should be disclosed - or made reasonably available to see - before inception. They just throw 60 pages of jargon at you and expect you to find it before ticking the 'I have read and accept the Terms & Conditions' box.

this is very interesting news that an insurer is respecting the need for the policyholder to exercise their right of choice even if at a higher rate of excess. Technically illegal under the Competition Act 1998 in my opinion but a step in the right direction anyway...

from memory the front screen on a Stratos is very thin to reduce weight and hence has a habit of cracking easily?
