Grim and frighting reading...control runs melting due to the cargo fire...crew could not see the instruments due to the smoke...

It's a comprehensive report though (wonders if the recent Bagram crash will be reported in such detail?)
It will be comprehensive but the UPS crash highlighted the risks of lithium batteries which were carried on every plane in the worldIt's a comprehensive report though (wonders if the recent Bagram crash will be reported in such detail?)
That's partly why all the new regulations were brought in regarding lithium batteries.
UPS in Cologne were alerted by the fire detectors moments before the pilots, it seems the fire spread that fast there was no hope.

Whether they were declared or not wouldn't have made a difference but it was the way to package them that people were not aware of at the time of the crash. Now every battery has to be boxed or packaged separate before putting in the main parcel, before people were putting them together in a box where they overheated/shorted out. The risks weren't widely known before the crash
