CAT C/D damaged car

There is a car for sale online at present that had a very severe rear impact recently. The pre-accident condition of the car was quite good. The car was sold on and listed as Cat C/D and has now been repaired and repairs look good. However the new advert does not mention any CAT C/D damage, nor is the car a particular cheap price.

Does an advert (legally) need to mention any previous damage and/or the fact the CAT C/D must be now on some paperwork somewhere?

My understanding is that a car is either cat c or cat d write off. It cant be both. However, if its a dealer selling the car then they have to declare everything they know about the car. Checks that they have to carry out will reveal if a car has been previously written off. So a dealer cannot claim not to know about its previous history. Questions from the buyer about condition or whether it had been damaged previously should unearth the truth. If it didnt then the dealer would be open to claims of misrepresentation, and possible trading standards violations.

I think that goes for any car you considering buying privately. HPI checks are a must!
