I'm a firm believer in praising companies who go above and beyond to deliver great customer service and over the past couple of weeks Sigma UK have done just that.

I recently bought a 5D and in absence of any full frame lenses I attempted to press back in to service an ancient (nearly 20yr old) Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 lens. It had been retired because of play in the focusing mechanism but they were happy to repair it so I sent it off.

Upon return I discovered that it would not shoot on my 5D at anything except wide open and a quick bit of research revealed that certain older Sigma lenses are incompatible with post-2002 Canon cameras unless re-chipped. Bugger.

Back to Sigma it went, hoping they could get it up and running but unfortunately they could no longer get their hands on the required chip to make it work. At this point I thought I was out of luck, or at most I'd get the cost of the original repair back, but instead they offered to trade it for any new lens of my choice at cost price, and then take the cost of the original repair off as well.

I won't embarrass them by telling the price but suffice to say it was an extremely good deal and my brand new 105mm OS Macro arrived today and I couldn't be happier!

Cheers Sigma! beer

Time to have a proper play now...

Nice innit, to deal with companies like this. Few and far between these days.

I recently posted something similar in praise of Oakley. If you damage or break a pair, and they cannot fix them because they're obsolete, they let you buy a new pair for 40% of the normal RRP.
