My last dog used to come with me in the car to Sainsburys, and when I got back in with the shopping she would put one leg over my shoulder.
To cut a long story short, after one of these happenings a few years ago I noticed that one of her "little pets" had attached itself to my shoulder.
I went to A&E and asked could they do anything about it or should I go down the vets ...

They are genius little things. It depends on conditions where you live and where the dogs spends its time. Mow the lawn, and all that jazz, and you will. It have them about so much. Have your dog charging through meadows and they will more likely pick them up. My white cat gets ticks more than the dog does, purely because he ranges into the meadows whereas the dog is seldom in there for long.
horrible things!
when you get them off burn them
they cause bolemia (it has been resurched about meningitits too)here in sweden many ,many people and pets are hurt by these every year!
i easily spot them on my bulldog (she is white) we have a tool like a pen with a small like fishing gut in a loop on top
get them off right away and burn the little buggers
