My VW Polo Mk4 (First Car)

Hi everyone, not a massive poster here but since I recently bought my first car I thought I may as well show it off!
I'm 18 at the end of the month, and I passed my test in December 2012. Since then I've been lucky enough to have some named driver experience on my mum's Volkswagen Up, however since I start my apprenticeship in August and have to attend a college 20 miles away, we decided that it would be best if I had my own car to use. This is where the Polo comes in!
The Polo actually belonged to our neighbour who inherited it off his mother when she died in 2006. It didn't seem to be getting much use so I chanced my luck and asked him about the availability of the car - we got chatting and it transpired that since 2006 it had done very few miles! He also wasn't holding onto it for sentimental value. We agreed on a price, and he generously offered to pay the cost of the car becoming roadworthy, which eventually was around the region of £500 for a new battery, starter motor and an electric wingmirror motor. He informed me that after this, the car passed it's MOT with no advisories, which I was pretty happy with.
A few days after this the car was mine! This was a 2002 Polo MK4 with just over 14,000 miles. Apparently, our neighbour's mum only used the car to do her shopping and etc! As you would expect the car runs perfectly and apart from some natural wear and tear to the panelling it looks brand new. I've since covered around 300 miles in the car and have had zero problems, although I have replaced each tire as a precaution.
So, just to clarify:
- Volkswagen Polo E
- 1.2L engine
- 1 previous owner
- 14k miles!
All for the sum of £1,200.

We sold a knackered one of these with completely ruined bodywork and interior with 70k miles and part service history for £1,500 a year ago, so you've done very well!
Be aware of the suspension and electrical gremlins on these though, both of the 9N2 Polo's we had suffered, and bushes may be cracked if it's been stood for a while

Nice first car.
I am often looking at these as a potential first car. Regards the CD player, my personal taste would be to stick with the OEM VW tape deck and just play songs from your iPod via a cable or adaptor.
It not only keeps the dash looking smart but is cheaper and some buyers (like me) seek out cars without a cheap CD player in.
Regardless, enjoy it.

As torque r just said get yourself an fm transmitter your better off buying a decent make one from belkin or griffin rather than cheapo nasty ones that last five minutes.
You can buy a battery powered one or one that will plug in the fag lighter also when it comes to selling people prefer the original stereos plus wiring in an aftermarket stereo in a VW normally means you have to turn it off manually unless you want to start cutting into wires or wiring into the fuse box.

Oh and in regard to the CD player, you can pick up a period VW unit for about £30 from eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK4-POLO-PASSAT-...
This just slots in below the existing head unit and links up with the supplied cable. You still have a free input for a CD Changer which could then be used an iPod input or Bluetooth adaptor etc

Knew that the car was bought for a very good price, but reading all these comments it sounds a total bargain! Again, thanks for all the comments. Not really had the chance to do any major trips yet, bit low on funds for petrol but after payday I can hopefully take it for a good spin.
One comment however..it is painfully slow but I suppose I shouldn't expect any more from a 55bhp engine!
