Samsung TV on the way out?

My Samsung LCD 32" TV is about 7 years old now and has developed dark areas near the bottom and sides of the screen.
I noticed it while looking at RIAT photos (lots of clear blue sky).
This is presumably caused by watching TV which isn't filling the screen.
Is there a fix? How much longer do I have before I have to say my final goodbyes?
Is there a way to prevent the eventual replacement doing the same thing?
So many questions, so little money for a new one.
