Where does one look for a new job these days?

What websites?

I am talking about the lower end of the market.

I had a look at the Jobcentre website but to search you first have to enter 'Job Title'.

I would prefer to browse available jobs in my area.

Just enter your location in the third address bar ,it will then give you all the jobs in your area. HTH.

I do look at certain websites specifically related to my industry. I generally recruit for myself by sending my details direct to companies I'd like to work for.

Edits: And following up with a phone call. Initiative usually pays off and the employer saves on agency fees.

This is what I see, you have to enter job title and location.

It seems daft, if you don't know the job title, you won't see the job.

I think he means just enter the postcode in the second box,

I go on directgov jobs daily and must say it seems a waste of time,

It maybe because there is no work within a 20 mile radius of me but most of the work is either fake agency work which is only used to get you to sign up on their books or so called self employed distribution work which translates to delivering betterware catalogs or translators wanted to help illegal immigrants to fill in their free handout forms.

It's better really to look on total jobs than directgov.

Yours is different to the one I have ,if I was able to screen grab I could show you, but my limited knowledge of this fails me I afraid.

When I've called agencies that I'm registered with about vacancies on their websites, two have told me that it's currently still being approved with the client but they put the blurb up anyway

Finding the same thing on direct.gov - when I hit apply it takes me to a bunch of different sites or 'library' type places

Just noticed a thing on Gumtree though so I figure might as well take a stab at that
