Dear seasoned veterans of Le Mans, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. As I have come to realise, tickets and campsites require quite a lot of forward booking, so, I have decided to concentrate my efforts to make the trip to the 2006 Le Mans 24hrs. I plan on taking the Esprit, and little in the way of luggage other than a tent and brew up kit. What I need to know is:

Is booking now, for the 2006 race feasible?
How do I go about booking Tickets and Campsites, and which ones do you recommend for a British Lotus fan?
Is it possible to survive with a small inventory of consumables and buy stuff there? or should I be thinking of loading to the gunnels?
Any additional information that you think may be required.

Thanks in advance, Simon.

Best bet to to read through the Le Mans forum and that will answer all of your questions. Can be booked way in advance, or as Shnozz and I did in 2003, a few days before, (nosed through ebay etc for unwanted tickets).

Err. I'd not advocate doing what we did though..

Why not 2005?
I didn't know I was going to my first LeMans until late March this year.
If you want a campsite close to the track then there may be a need to book early but if you camp some distance away you get to enjoy some driving of your own and there should not be a problem booking a pitch.

The site I stayed at is very car friendly and holds their own concourse de elegance and many other events. The bar stays open for as long as there are customers and do all meals and bar food. Net result is you only need to get the beers in and sit round the pool.

Steve

Edit. You don't need to by race tickets in advance. You get them and your car park permit when you turn up. Obviously pays to get them ASAP rather than try 10 minutes before the start.

Where was that Steve, if you don't mind me asking? Stayed in Houx this year, and will probably stay within walking distance of the circuit again, but always good to know a couple of recommended alternatives.

Mail me. If I post it here I'll not get a place myself.

Thanks guys, its been so long since I've been on here that I never knew about the Le Mans forum. My preferences have been set quite tightly.
Anyway ,the Le mans forum will undoubtedly help.

Steve,

YHM.

How do you, and others who are a driving distance away from the circuit find having to drive to and from the circuit? Parking, not drinking, having to plan what to take etc?

If you want to watch every minute of the race then camp nearby.

If you want to break it up a bit and visit other viewing points then a quite camp site away from the circuit works well.
The drive is good fun and your parking permit covers every car park around the circuit so you can come and go as you please.
We never had a problem with parking space just getting the Ultima into some of the fields they use for the car parks. Even then the guys on the gate stopped all the traffic so I could go into the exit which had a better grade. Was then directed into a roped off enclosure. I got the feeling my car was looked after the whole time it was there.
Drink is the same as anywhere. When you have finished driving you can start drinking.

Might be worth trying the Lotus club for tickets, as the TVR club hasn't got their allocation yet, so I'd suspect it will be the same for other groups.

Alternatively one of the Le Mans regulars with an Esprit may be able to help.....
