Well, 10 months down the line and a refurbed turbo has failed. No warranty as turbo's are open to abuse and I can't prove that mine wasn't. I'm getting through these too quickly and I don't know why. Oil is being supplied o.k, as is water. I don't do track days and I leave the engine to run until the fans stop when I park. Trouble is, how long is long enough for the turbo's to cool? I've heard of turbo timers for these very situation and wondered if anyone has one fitted or experience of them?

I think you have been very unlucky.
I've had turbo's last for years without replacing, on (Very) abused machinery.
You don't mention how the unit failed, seal(s)? Bearing(S)? break-up? other?
I'd question the source of your re-furb and try somewhere else,
Perhaps if your pockets are deep enough buy new with uprated bearings.

I don't think universal have ever accepted a warranty claim yet, he just chooses today's reason for failure, as above drive the last bt of your journey slowly

The problem appears to be just the rear unit which had broken up with a bent shaft. I took the car to my local mechanic (who is a Noble owner)for a minor water leak. He took it for a quick spin after looking for the leak and there was no boost. There had been no odd noises or smoke or anything to suggest the turbo was on its way out.

Have you got welded up or repaired manifolds ? I would say a piece of the manifold has broken up and gone through the turbo !!!

New aluminium manifolds about a year and half back, lambda's not old either. Could a bearing fail and do this?

Do you not get any warranty at all? Get them to prove you have abused them!

Apparently if they were only 3 months old then it may have been a different story, but at 10 months it's unlikely to be a faulty turbo.
