Depends on what you want the car for. The 6 is fast as I had to chase one down but the 8 is a dream and top end a lot quicker.

Not that you will do that much.

I currently have a ajp 4.2 in my cerb and a red rose 6 in my tuscan power speed wise very little in it really both sound epic on full chat. I would buy the best car you can if you go for a 6 I would only buy one with a power re build or one of the other reputable builders.

I still like the ajp the best as it feels unique and is a one off engine to the cerb and it pops and bangs on command where as the 6 only does it when its winding right down, both fabulous British engines.

As above. Both are wonderful engines in their own right. The Speed Six sounds a bit nicer I think, but the AJP8 scores highly on uniqueness as only a Cerbera had them.

Try both. You may have a preference. I personally wanted a Cerb with an AJP8, however I still want to own a Speed Six along with it, either in a Cerb or something else.

When I bought mine it didn't matter if SP6 or AJP.
I searched for the best car as possible and it was then an AJP 4.5
When you have the chance to drive both, do it. After my feeling the SP6 is a bit more smoother (in the Sagaris from a friend), the AJP more aggressive.
Both are fantastic engines and I hope the new TVR Management will keep that spirit with TVR in future.

Here's a slight curve ball, if you were to select an AJP, which engine? Early 4.2, late 4.2 or 4.5? They are all supposed to be slightly different too

After my personal meaning: only AJP 4.5 from '98 or later. In the 4.2 I have no experience, but I heard from Crank-cracks of early 4.2. And the alternative SP6 I got offered at the time of my search was a 2002. So also okay after my intention.

When I bought my Cerbera I would have taken a AJP8 or a Speed Six but more importantly I wanted the best car I could find for the money I had. Both the engine are superb. I ended up with a 2003 Speed Six and love it but it was the all round condition of the car that made up my mind to buy it not what engine it had.

Depends on how you intend to use the car. The Speed 6 is a lot 'nicer' engine, way more refined than the AJP, much more of a GT engine. If you intend doing track days then 100% AJP is the way to go.

I bought my car on the condition, colour and spec, the engine wasn't really a consideration. They are chalk and cheese, try both and don't fall into the trap of 'I must have a 4.5' keep an open mind

Err what? My Speed 6 pops and bangs between gear changes.

In a ajp at any speed lift off for a sec then apply very light throttle on command pops and bangs this does not happen in the 6 it picks when it. wants too. Not a bad thing just a character I like a lot in the ajp smile

Don't get your hackles up I own both engines but I prefer some character charms of the ajp. Over the 6 and vice versa.

My Tuscan's overrun is truly biblical. Far more pops, bangs and crackles than the AJP I had in the Cerb (which was decatted with JP sports exhaust). They are two completely different engines, and the differences have been described in anal detail thousands of times on these hallowed pages. To cut a long story short, drive both and only then can one decide.

The only real answer of course, is to have one of each.

It's better now it's sufficiently coked up, but initially was quite embarrassing Mick. Ridiculously loud. Settling in with the noise now though, there is a resonation around 3k on overrun which needs looking at but otherwise pleased.

How's progress with the gearbox?

I've only been in my old speed 6 Tuscan but I've heard the AJP8 is not good in traffic but epic in the country. The speed 6 is fine in traffic and almost as epic in the country.

I'm wanting a Cerb and think it will have to be a V8.

I would say that any v8 having been remapped is much better around town and even more fun every where else
