T350 mixed tyres ~ ~ ~ ~
Discussion
After now having the T for a couple of months yesterday i had my first relay journey in twenty five years, luckily seems that its just a split hose & i switched off immediately.
Point is that as it was being winched up the penny dropped as i noticed diffeent tyres front to rear.
Two weeks ago i spoke to matt smith to organise a full geo check as i have not been happy with high speed weave in the handling particularly when coming off the power. He did ask about tyres & i did think they were pilot sport all round ( yesi know youre all thinking how could i make a mistake like that - but its like whenyouve got a new girlfriend & you dont notice her teeth because youre looking at her tits)
Anyway michelin pilot sport on front 225/35 18 on the front. Avon ZZ3 235/40 18 on the rear all with good tread possible rears with a tad more.
SO WHICH SHOULD I CHANGE - if i had to guess myself would prob be the michelins as steering feel is vague

As I found out with a BMW one time you can get problems with having the supposedly upgraded version of a tyre on one axle and the earlier version on the other, felt like the 2 halves of the car were joined with a flexi bar.
Could Matt stick a spare set of wheels onto your car to see if the problem dissapears, if it doesn't you would at least know to look elsewhere for the cause of the problem.

Are the Michelin asymetric and the Avons directional? If so theres a great chance Mat is right. I had it on my car and changing to the same all round was an instant cure.
Some tyres will work mismatched front to rear but some just won't and will make the car feel damned right dangerous. If you can find a full matching set of wheels to try before going to the expense of swapping tyres that'll be your best option, also do get the geo checked.

Just don't tell him he's right though it will go to his head! Zippee said:

Same here new GY F1 asymetric 2's on the back not happy playing with/against the F1 GSD3 on the front. I'm wondering if there is a market for part worn tyres?Perhaps get the Geo done, sign up for a CarLimits day with Mr Walsh and get through the tyres in a glorious day of getting to know your car and then when they are toast you can replace them?
I've got the rest of the summer left on the rears of my '00 Tuscan 4.0 and then I will have to think about what to do as I think the fronts are still ok but not new so migh have to just get 4 all round or at least try the rears and see and if scary then put some new ones on the front.
