GT3 Manthey 510
Discussion
Thanks agtlaw
Why? Because I can! Exactly. Also because its the same price as an RS 4.0 was new once I've bought a donor car. It's also arguably cooler as its just going to be a simple GT3 with a fruity motor. More useable than the now 200k 4.0 too.
It's not so I'm quick down the straights....just fancy something different that isn't rare and commanding a big premium at the moment. It doesn't make financial sense but that's not a priority for me in this particular case.

You're not the first, and you won't be the last. I looked into doing a Sharkwerks 3.9 conversion on my last 997 GT3. Like you, I thought a properly suspended, narrow body, 500hp 997 GT3 in a subtle colour would make for a great Q car.I got as far as chatting to the guys at Regal and discussed the in's and out's of the conversion with them. Why? After using the car on the road for a few weeks, I came to realise it didn't need anymore horsepower. In my case, the financial sense part was a priority.
I get that. Don't get me wrong, I don't like losing money and I also realise that more horsepower is now ultimately pointless. I'm finding it harder and harder to drive in a spirited fashion on the road, from both a safety point of view and a legal one. Hence the cayman. But, I do love sprucing up cars. My max power days! I've been lucky and made a few quid on a couple of older cars that I'm selling/have sold, so maybe a little bit of that can be squandered! I'll regret it, but I'll worry about that then!
I've a 997GT2 M600. Manthey Racing GmbH are one of the very best specialists our there. Their work not only on my GT2 but also a previous 6RS has always been spot on. They have an amazing factory with both engine and gearbox workshops inc all the latest CNC machines. They are not cheap but in my experience you get what you pay for.
If you want a stealth GT3 - I'm presuming that you have a 997 version? - I'd start with the suspension and chassis set up. £ for £ that is a far more cost effective route to tune. GT3's make most of their time under braking and through the corners. Even a 510bhp GT3 will be demolished by a Gt2 in a straight line.
If you want fast, why not get a 997 GT2? You have more tuning options should you feel it's not quick enough! Simple cheap reversible tuning will get you to 580ish bhp easily, and you won't lose much more money (above standard depreciation) if you revert to standard to sell.
If you are going to spend EUR45k + vat, and it has to be a GT3, then why not look at 9FF and build something epic?

Because a naturally aspirated GT3 responds better IMHO, that's why I would want a Manthey 510 conversion. If you are going to spend EUR45k + vat, and it has to be a GT3, then why not look at 9FF and build something epic?
Go for it !
That's exactly why! Spot on. Ultimately I'd like an RS 4.0 but try and find one, I also don't like the fussy looks as much as the vanilla 3.8
As for lap times and speed, it's not the holy grail for me. I just want a more responsive and flexible engine. It also appeals that they are as rare as hens teeth and it'll be truly special with a Manthey motor in it.
With a decent semi aggressive road biased set uo on it it'll be some weapon then.

five on here - from £155,000 (or £130,000 for a crashed car): http://suchen.mobile.de/auto/search.html?scopeId=C...cheapest 4.0 RS on the market?

I want RHD sadly
Understood, but the vast majority (95%?) of the 600 cars are LHD. If you really want one then you could fly to the fatherland and drive it away tomorrow for £155k inc VAT. LHD doesn't matter when you're at Silverstone, Donington, Brands GP, Spa or the Nürburgring.
Yes I know what you mean. But I've had loads of LHD cars and to be honest it just means I am not in the mood for them most of the time. A lot of my driving is on B roads and I find LHD just that much more unsighted.
Personally I feel that RS 4.0 are massively over valued, just like most other cars at the moment. When the world comes to its senses I'll buy a UK one. And I am not someone who has missed the boat and is bitter about it, I have been very much the beneficiary of car price inflation! Personally I wish cars hadn't gone up so much. I think it generally means we are having less fun.
For now a Manthey will do nicely. The RS 991 should also be a good bit of kit. It is said to be a no holds barred model!
