Sub making random pops, noises.
Discussion
Hello folks.
I've an amp with 5.1 setup. The sub keeps randomly popping or making worse noises. Like interference.
Watching TV now, the sub just made a queer noise for 2 seconds and then the TV changed from it's built in TV tuner to it's HDMI 1 output where nothing is currently feeding.
Just TV and Amp on currently. All fed via HDMI.
The sub was also making the odd random noise earlier when using the Media Centre PC. So the TV, Amp and HTPC were on. Just noises, no input changing.
I've heard that it could be an electrical component playing up and manifesting itself via the sub as opposed to the sub certainly being the problem.
Any ideas?

Mine had a dirty volume potentiometer - the variable resistor used for the volume knob. Opened uu, quick squirt of WD40 into the potentiometer innards, twiddle the knob a few times and it is as right as rain. Please remember to unplug the power before doing anything!
Did it happen all the time or only when adjusting the volume? How did you end up with knowing what it was? I'm at a complete loss at where to even start.
As said, sub makes the odd queer noise even when the amp and TV are off at times.
Sometimes the TV flashes up the HDMI channel input (same as in use) then adjusts to the selected Hz etc and then carries on. So it's sending a signal to the TV at times, not always, sometimes just the noise on it's own.
Amp never seems effected, neither does the media centre.
I've just unplugged the signal lead out the back of the sub.
Is it likely to be the sub or is the sub just showing the noise up? Not sure if the problem may be fixed with the sub disconnected or just the problem creating the noise hidden

It was quiet in standby or with very low volumes

Mine did this - it was the wireless broadband - do you have it ? If so, unplug everything and then see if your sub pops and crackles.
Regards.
Weird you say this. Recently I've noticed the wifi (on my phone) crashing. So it did occur but at the same time didn't.Regards.
Well I'm awaiting a new sub cable so can tick that off the list as a possible issue. It's not actually made a sound the last two days, so I'm awaiting for an issue and to then disconnect the Wifi router to see if any issue is resolved.
It's given me some places to start looking anyhow.
