Would love to have one of these, but sadly they were never legal for North America, so not on. No idea why Porsche made the decision. Good for owners though,as so few were built.

If it's true that the owner has owned it since 2008 and never been on track with it then I won't have any info. VIN needed to confirm.

There is a special provision in US Law ( colloquially known as the Gate Law). Bill Gates petitioned Congress about a 959 he wished to import and wa sable to get a special provision whereby you can import a car and use it for less then 2500 miles a year. As I recall the law these days is still there ,but for cars over 25 years old.

Was never federalized. All the crash tests etc have to be done there, and various US items like lights,bumpers etc have to meet the regulatory standard.

Good list, that but its not exhaustive as they do not include cars till someone applies and has the car approved....

It was a marketing decision...they were not at all sure about the 997RS either but the Gen.1 was well received, so now we get all of them. However, nothing between the 2.7 and the 997 showed up as I recall. The 964 RS America looked the part but had the regular engine.

But you're in Canada, not the US where that law applies. In Canada the cutoff age before you can import non-homologated cars is 15 years. Still a little while to wait for a 6RS, mind you.

For example, there are already a few early Lotus Elise S1 appearing in Canada, whereas they are specifically excluded from US Show and Display according to that list posted above.

Not sure if I can take it across the US border though and I would require that.

The 996rs was a homologation car and there was a will at the factory to make the car as extreme as possible. I was talking to somebody reasonably high up in the factory just after the car was launched who told me that it was the first car that he can ever remember Porsche losing money on. It cost more to manufacture than they could sell it for. He also said that the car was not offered for sale in the US as they would not compromise any of it's specification but that they had learned - after the subsiquent uproar from US buyers - not to make that 'mistake' again.

As for values, I think that being quite rare, each car sold makes its own maket. I know of 2 cars with low miles and good Provence that sold recently for well into the 70's.
