My engine died as I got the car out of the garage this morning (having run for 20 secs or so). Trying to restart it there was no sound from the fuel pump.
Does anyone know if it would run on existing fuel pressure for this long?
I was hammeriting and waxoyling over the weekend so I suspect I could have knocked something.
Any ideas where to start?

I would check the connections on the pump to start with. According to the bible they take a hammering from the elements which causes a bad connection.

Not sure if I've solved it or not.
Got back this evening and stupidly played around with the lower connection on the pump before trying to start it again. Problem seems to have gone away.
Now I'm not sure if it was a loose connection or the immobiliser playing up.

From the symptoms ( having been there twice), I'd say you have a problem with one of the fuel injection relays, there are two in the footwell, worth getting a couple of spares.

My money's on the Lucar Spade connectors on the FP itself, and from the sounds of it you've solved it. This happened to me on a Track Day whilst sitting at the head of the queue!!

Nearly a year on an no hint of the problem reoccuring.

Happened on trackday for me too. Spade connector in the multiplug to the ECU worked its way backwards and lost contact under heavy cornering. Pump stopped and the car did likewise. Found that the connector had been inserted the wrong way round inside the plug and so the metal latching pin was not able to hold the connector in. Turned it round and pushed it home. All's well now.

I also think it was the pump connector as I had been working on the chassis in that area over the weekend. It seems too much of a coincidence for this not to be the guilty item.
If it happens again (so far so good) I will investigate relays/fuses.
Thanks for the help
