Happened to a friend of the family - he was in the Magistrates Court last Friday.

He got 6 points and a £300 fine.

He's on average earnings and doesn't. need a car to carry on working. However, being a service adviser in a garage means he may have to move cars around on his employer's site. I think a letter from his employers and a clean licence may have saved him from a ban.

The court was in N.W. London as the incident happened near Hanger La. (just off the A.40.).

So WTF is it alright to go 60 on a 30 but 100 in a 70 results in an instant ban?

No such thing as an instant ban. Mitigating events etc.

I got pinged 5 years ago. My first and only collar ever. Upper Thames Street tunnel, straight road, no pedestrian acess No oncoming traffic. 83 in a 30. 6pts, £500 fine. Ive never done anything so stupid again.

Well it doesn't neccessarily, I got 6pts & £300 for 101 in a 60 However it was perfectly safe and putting no-one at risk.

Obviously don't know the circumstances but IMHO 60+ in a (justified)30 is plain silly.

But the whole system seems to 'favour' speeding in a 30 as opposed to 60's or 70's.

60+ in a 30 zone might be silly, but I still do it regularly.

There's one road that for years was a 70mph dual carriageway.

Now it's a 30mph limit. B'Stards.

thats the problem, there are many areas where it was a NSL and now is a 40 or even a 30. It was perfectly safe to do 60 2 years ago but now double the limit and you will be banned.

Doesnt make sence.

If 60+ in a 30 zone can be considered not serious enough for a ban, then one must question whether the 30 limit is actually required at all.

In my experience, it's extremely rare to see a justified 30 limit.

63 in a 30 early morning, I got 6 points and a £250 fine (was 24 at the time).

Thread I posted the other month, my brother (age 23) 102 on dual carriageway, 3 points £60 fine, photocopied the ticket and framed it - BIB said traffic was all going stupidly fast and unfair to nail one person (I was following and got off with nothing and a nothing).

friend of mine was recently in court as a witness to an RTA along that very road. Apparently the girl crossed the road and met a van doing 40-something.

Which is outrageous enough in itself. What is seriously scary is the distance we have moved in 5 years. In 2010 will we see posts like "43 in a thirty only got 10 years" "or "Caught in posession of ignition keys escaped death peanalty" Mitigating that he was on his way to hand them in under the amnesty. or "Famous car poster dealer jailed" Posters of obscene vehicles and tapes of V8 engine sounds were siezed in a dawn raid in essex this morning the posters which were being sold to children as young a 4 were confiscated under the offending sandalist morals act 2006......

Just where will the silliness end?

That's a real favourite with them isn't it .... only ever been pinged once and it was there. 4 policemen with hairdryers pointing into the tunnel. All 4 of them stood underneah the static Gatso.

I got down at 55 in the 30, fair enough. But there was a lad pulled at 78 and the policeman dealing with me reckoned he would be banned ..... 6 points etc seems like a good deal compered to that discussion.

Does seem ridiculous though as he also said to me that they were only stopping people doing more than 50 !

No pedestrian access to the tunnel, dual carriageway and a static camera as you leave the tunnel entering the high risk area ........ So why have a 30 limit in the tunnel ??
