I'm quite tempted by a yellow 2009 low mileage cabriolet at Porsche Portsmouth.

Sadly, it's got no sat nav nor Bluetooth but I could get round this with my Garmin.

I quite like the colour but would I be mad to buy it?

Are the cabriolet hoods really suitable for winter daily use?

At the right price it should be ok, but will be less easy to sell. I'd only ever buy an S, but someone buys the other cars.

Very modest spec - suspect you will need to want it as a keeper.

The colour, no NAV, and the fact that everyone wants the S could make re-sale an issue.

Lovely thing though all the same and the 3.6 engine with the PDK is a peach of a combination!

Speed Yellow is a great colour. The lack of nav will be a big issue come resale and the S is the car most people want but then that's reflected in the price.

I now actually specify my cars without satnav, and I suspect that the market will follow: why would any of us pay £2k+ AND several hundred pounds every couple of years for updates when an iPad mini with a £30 App is better, faster and provides updates for free. NOTHING dates cars faster than satnav technology and, once manufacturers get over the loss of their 80%+ profit margins on Nav, they'll start providing built-in connectors/power for tablets so that Apps can take over pretty much everything except primary instrumentation.

It's an interesting point of view, but you are ahead of the trade. Cars without NAV, and specifically luxury or high end sports cars without NAV, are still getting crucified.

I use the Sat Nav screen in my 2006 QP merely as somewhere to stick my Tom Tom cradle.

I disagree. I see an increasing number of customers turn up in nav-equipped cars using Tom-toms which are far better than an out of date factory system.

Sure, nearly new cars will get hit value wise more than the cost of the original option but once they're a few years old I think it matters a lot less than it used to.

Which is why all the expensive goes out the door with the NAV optioned, and why the few cars without get bid so low at trade time.

Less of an issue on older cars but I would still rather have a 911 to sell with NAV than without, especially a 997.2

Final question please.

Sat Nav and Bluetooth can be retro fitted for about £2,500.

Would you have this done now or price your car in any future sale that it could be done?

You won't get the 2500 back so I wouldn't bother. However for me Bluetooth is much more important than sat nav. Not sure if you can get that on its own...?

Davel - "ooooops, bought it". What a fantastic post. Well done you, looks great. None of my last 2 sports cars have nav, I also feel that after a couple of years they are obsolete and not worth the expensive upgrades. I have a windscreen nav which I update every couple of years which is far better, or apps are so good these days, the navs are useless within weeks when fitted in cars. The cost of them is eye watering.

Well she arrived safely at lunchtime today and this is the first time that I'd actually seen the car.

Really pleased with her and Porsche Portsmouth have been great throughout the whole buying process.

The engine and PDK gearbox are amazing.

Hope to see some of you at Oulton Park soon!
