hello, I was looking at track days etc and was just wondering if there is an annual fee you can pay at any tracks ( not silly money) to go whenever you like, rather than pay every time for individual track days? Thanks!

If not done alteady you've just come up with a fantastic business idea! I should imagine that would do someone like palmer with his mass of circuits really well! Could do a annual membership to all his tracks

Most circuits are rented out to clubs or trackday organisers for whole days and weekends for exclusive use so it's very unlikely a circuit owner would be able to do this even if they wanted to. Similarly test days require race licenses and they have to keep the single seaters away from the closed wheel cars for safety's sake.

IIRC Bookatrack used to have an all you can eat option but it was far from cheap.

Aren't trackdays generally run by private companies that hire each track from it's owners on a day by day basis though?

If the tracks themselves ran the trackdays then it might be feasible (although I guess it applies to the trackday companies too) but you would still need to book your slot for a given day so the only thing you would be doing is removing the aspect of paying for each individual trackday every time.

Yes, though MSV belongs to Jonathon Palmer so it might be feasible on their days but I doubt they would go for it unless they had some sort of deal for unpopular days and times of year which they already handle in their pricing structure.

For that to work there would need to be marshalls there every day. I think I'm right in saying that most marshalls are volunteers (without whom there would be no racing/track days for us to enjoy) and therefore it would be difficult to have them turn up every day.

Indeed we do! No, it's not cheap (£4Kpa) but then we do have the largest selection of car track days anywhere in Europe*, including exclusive days at Spa-Francorchamps, Estoril, Portimao, Monza, Mugello, Nordschleife, Brands GP, Silverstone GP etc etc (70+ events in total this year).

.* possible exception of Lotus-on-Track who I think do a few more events, albeit at smaller circuits.

Most/all marshals on race days are volunteers.

Most marshals at MSV track days are paid (less than minimum wage last time I looked) - although some aren't doing it for the money and are semi-retired anyway.

I was pretty sure about race days but not sure about track days. Thanks for clarifying. beer

Jonny's £4k deal isn't bad when consider an open pit lane on Silverstone GP can cost £500 peak season.

Note that some circuits do run their own track says (Silverstone for example) but if you go that way you miss out on Melindi's sweeties, Dave's doughnuts and Jonny's, er, wit.

The self-restraint. I'm a shadow of my former self.

Thanks for the responces guys! the 4k a year one is obviously expensive although for what it is it looks like great value!

Something for me to look into in the future i suppose! Thanks

4K is excellent value if you do a lot of trackdays, probably 15 is about break even. If he still doesn't charge extra for a second driver (like so many rivals who want an extra £50 to bring a friend along) it looks like an excellent way to help control the costs of on addiction.

I gather Jonny having to carry out the briefing in French on BAT's first to France was especially good smile
