Water ingress into the boot

Washed the car the evening and for the second I found a pool of water in the right hand corner of the boot. I watched the water gather towards the back right of the boot lid and it seems the drainage hole is blocked.

Tried to clear it with a cable tie and it seems fine but water won't run down.

I'm wondering what might be wrong. The rubber tube is definitely connected to the drainage hole. Once it passes through the back of the rear light it kind of goes into the body of the car before peeping out underneath.

Could it have been kinked somehow when the body went back on and how do I access it to sort it out?

Looks like its clamped in the light fitting from the one shot.

You must have some long cable ties ???

A pressure washer might be a trifle fierce but maybe a garden hose with a "jet spray" nozzle squirted down them (you could get wet)!

Have you got anything nearly as big as the hole and flexible, old piece of cable/flex or a bit of screen washer tube or.....

You need to remove the internal light cover and trace the plastic tubing down to the bottom. I did this and the carpet if disturbed can be glued back in place using copydex, clear the tube with a straightened metal coathanger and Bob`s your uncle, nice clear pipe

Blow up the pipe from underneath, see if it's clear.
Mine's loose at the connection to the channel in the body and so weeps a bit even though it's clear

First of all check that the brass “funnels” which sit in the drain channels are sealed into the channel with silicone. It they aren’t then the water is just running underneath the “funnels”, down the outside of the tube and into the boot.

Secondly, check that the tube isn’t trapped underneath the battery tray. If it is then it probably means the battery tray is floating around and could damage the body from the inside if you don’t deal with it quickly.

If that’s not the issue, then it’s probably just a blocked pipe and you’ll just have to keep poking it from both ends until it clears (as the actress said to the bishop). Be careful you don’t poke too hard and puncture the tube or you’ll be buggered.

I’ll show you on Wednesday if you haven’t sorted it by then.

I always get the hose pipe spray on single lie on floor find pipe and spray
up then do the same down the hole

I keep a cycle brake cable inner wire in my garage for cleaning out tubes like this. Also works on most washer pipes as these often get gunged up if the car is off road over winter (not that it should be of course!!!)

From the photos I would agree with Simon, looks to be trapped/compressed in the light fitting,( would not have thought this was a standard route) if you just release the bulb holder section and re route the pipe around the fitting that may be all it needs.

Mine goes behind the rear light fitting without issue, the pipe wall is quite thick so it should not compress. The only time I have had issues was when I used a hose pipe to rinse the car off, the two drain pipes could not cary the water away quick enough and it overflowed into the boot. Not had any issues in heavy rain.

Oh well, how about when you washed it after all this dry weather a huge spider had made a home in the drip channel and got sucked down the pipe and it is now holding on with all eight legs holding his breath??

Ah my tip for clearing that one is to lie on your back underneath the car and suck as hard as you can on the drainage pipe

rummaging in the boot this evening and I noticed the drain hose does go between the light fitting and body (as in your photo) so that shouldn't be the problem.

Nothing so far. Car is currently with Bespoke Performance for a suspected misfire and ride height / geo, so not managed to get to it yet.

The tube definitely looks pinched to me, could be the picture though. Mine runs in the same place as yours but I have to thread the bulb holder section of the light cluster behind the tube when refitting it then the tube sits outside of the bulb holder and disappears under the carpet below the light cluster.
