Chaps,

I want to replace the 2.0 Pinto in my westfield with a more modern zetec / duratec / is there an etc ?

The Pinto exhaust exits on drivers side (offside) and carbs are on passenger side (nearside)
I'm after an in the same layout any ideas ???

I was told a duratec would be ok but the ones I've seen are opposite in configuration

I'm aware a new bell housing will probably be required for my type 9 gearbox ....
I plan to run it off webers but couls swap to throttle bodies etc instead ?

any thoughts chaps ?

Hi Neil ....

Thanks for the reply.
I've just been looking at the Duratatec pictures on Fleabay but SOME seem to be wrong way round ?

This old one looks correct !

But this newer one looks backwards to me ?

St170 engine isn't a duratec it's a rebadged & modified zetec
The easy way to tell is all "proper" duratecs are the right way round for you & chain driven
It's a bit confusing that ford badged the zetecs in the st & Rs duratec confused
The duratec your after was fitted to fiesta st's mondeos & mk2 focus's smile
Avoid the early mondeo ones as they had a poor piston ring design that causes them to burn oil, the pick of the bunch is the fiesta st engine as it has better bits inside smile
Depending
On your budget the engines are available up to 2300cc & the bigger ones can be bought new (try jamsport) & make very good power from induction & exhaust only
Hth smile

The Ford Sigma 1600 engine has manifolds on offside the same as the pinto.. But if you want more than 150bhp Duratec is where to go.

One thing to bear in mind is the duratec is a very tall engine quite often kit car owners dry sump them so they can sit low enough in the chassis
