Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride - 28/9/13

Any other Phers signed up for this? I must admit it's the first organised cycling event I've signed up for, and it is a warm up for me trekking 115km through the sahara in October.

anyone done the ride before? Are you staying in blackpool after? Anyone mad enough to cycle back?

I did this last year. Took a car up in the afternoon and parked up and got a lift back. Rode the event and drove back. The ride itself is pretty easy but the weather can change that. When I did it last year it was dry and fresh. Plenty of reflective material will help as there are long parts of the ride in badly lit or unlit areas. I split from my group and ended up doing the last 25 miles on my own. Just as I pulled into the finish it started to piss down and blow a gale. We passed some sorry looking sights on the way out of Blackpool battling a serious headwind trying to get home.

Tick in a box but I wont be rushing to do it again.

So just the normal weather we get here on the Fylde coast then.

I did.the day ride 2 weeks ago. roads on the sunday where quiet of cars and not busy. just watch for the wind as you come into lytham.

just need to need to check over shoulder before passing as you may be passed at same time.

This was the day ride though. Can heavily reccomend upping the ante, 50 flattish miles on a road bike isn't that much of a challenge, but equally miles 65 - 70 and 130 - 140 weren't really "fun"..

Well I did, and although feeling a bit broken this morning, I feel a great sense of achievement. Not exactly lightning pace at 3hrs 49m but I 'm a fat lad, it was dark and cold, and with mental headwinds. off to get in the tub with a beer now to recover

Still something to be proud of. My first 70 took me 5 1/4 hours and I'm damn proud of that one - and you're a lot faster than I am! :-)
