Buying 997 GT2 Porsche warranty - Is it worth it?

My GT2 has had a new strut, top mount, ac compressor and a few other bits done under warranty. I'll be renewing it when the 2 years is up next March.

I think the official warranty is very highly rated, and over the last couple of years I've read very little criticism of it and lots of praise.

There is one long thread running where a Turbo owner is in dispute with Porsche over an engine failure and this has revealed some grey areas regarding engine over-revs, but it isn't really clear where fault lies and won't be until the OP takes proceedings against Porsche.

If I was buying a GT2 I'd definitely want the warranty (wouldn't risk it without), but I'd want clarification from Porsche about the over-rev position.

Admittedly my car is a rarely used 'garage queen' but I guess peace of mind is attractive in the event of something failing. Have always been a positive risk taker re warranties and insurance policies but think the Porsche cover is relative good value..

That's a tough choice if you cover low miles, personally I would keep the cover up just in case, original low milers must be rare now...? I had a new central radiator and that's it in 12 months. GT2 should have a knighthood.. for loyalty to owner..

I keep the warranty on my 997 GT3, and it has paid out over the 3 years I've had the car. On balance it's probably paid out similar to cost (last year not much went wrong with the car), but I like the peace of mind should something catastrophic go wrong, however unlikely.

Make sure you see the over-rev report every time the car goes in and that's about it, everything else should be straight forward. Everything isn't covered under the warranty, so just be aware that some bits will still need to be paid for (I had to pay for a leaking coolent pipe this year, cost about £100 with fitting).

Given the importance of over-revs in warranty claims I'd recommend anyone with a manual Porsche ask for their car to be checked in and out with over-rev reports when it's driven without them present, it can be quite revealing and useful data!!
