Does anyone have any up to date info about this service? Is it worth while, do they pay out etc... I have tried to search but no up to date info is available!

A pal of mine just got them to pay out on a rear suspension pump for his D3. Bill was £850, AA forked out the first £500

That's pretty steady, was that recently? I think they have changed their t&c's last year

They'll pay out if you follow their terms and conditions to the letter.

You have to have the problem diagnosed and a quote sent to them before going ahead with the repair. You can not have the car repaired before they approve it. They may want to send an "engineer" to look at it before commencing repair.

I got fked over by their pedantic system the first time because I didn't read the t's and c's

It also helps if the garage says it's failure of a part rather than worn as the T's & C's exclude worn parts (which would describe everything that breaks on a car, really)

This. Be nice to them, get them to explain everything nicely to you on the phone, and heed the advice.

My mate had £350 worth of roadside repairs, and the guy said "We pay up to £500 - let's stick you a new battery on too".

I had a new coil and plug roadside. But when the Catalytic converter went they weren't interested because it was "Blocked - NOT broken".

Familiarise yourself with what they will fix and what they won't. If you're happy, proceed. I did - it's lemonade money for a bit of back up.

It sounds rather good...but they don't seem overly keen on selling anything - their website is so bloody slow!

What's covered and what not typically? Is there anything that highlights their packages? Can't find it?!

Also, any restrictions on the car? And does it have to be after a breakdown where the AA attend to you as a member?

Yes - this is the most crucial part.

£50 pa!? How are you managing that!? I pay c £20pm on my TT (used to have a 330 and it was the same). They forked out for a DISA valve on the BM (£360ish) but it would have been even sweeter if I were paying as little as you!

£50 PA - no idea, simply what they quoted. I am talking roughly - so low I can't really remember the exact figure. This is the £500 limit policy that only pays out if you have a roadside breakdown and are attended by the AA - so if you include AA recovery then it's more like £200 all in for decent recovery options.

What I can't believe is that they even cover the MR2 turbo - it's 20+ years old for god sake.

I will continue to use this cover on any car out if manufacturers warranty, even if I have an aftermarket policy as I am pretty sure it will always pay out and costs buttons.

Ah, of course. I was clearly a little bit tired and not thinking when I wrote that. I have AA recovery etc which - all-in - costs me just over £200 pa. I think the Breakdown Repair aspect maybe costs me £70 pa.

I wouldn't have thought they would cover your MR2! Frankly, I can't recommend it highly enough and even though they've only had to fix one thing on my old car it still left me with a net save of circa £290.

Buuuuuuump.

In the past i've always taken my recovery policy out with my insurance - usually as its cheap with good cover thrown in.

However my mileage has increased massively so now considering the AA and taking on the breakdown repair cover also.

One of my major concerns are that parts that fail due to wear and tear are not covered?

Anyone still signed up for this and having good things to say about it?

Thanks

Still with this, although not used it since last Sept when they paid for the Boxster water pump & fitting. As for wear & tear bits this would be pads, clutch plates etc. When I claimed the callipers for the jeep they paid for callipers, flexis & fitting but deducted the pads, as that is a wearing part.

Will deffo renew for all 3 cars in August when my AA cover renews as well.
