Thinking about buying a speed camera/radar detector thingy and wonder if anyone could advise me on which one to go for.

Been reading up on some of them and the Road Angle 2 seems the best candidate so far.

Any thoughts?

Ive got a roadangel 2, picks up all cameras and not
let me down yet. Still to be tested on hand held laser
types, can never find one when you want one

I've got a Bel Euro 550 which has good reviews, particularly as it can be used all across Europe (altough they are illegal in many countries - and can be confiscated in France) It has actually picked up a couple of lasers, one on the M* toll when I was doing about 65 - 70mph at the time, big brake moment and then realised wasn't speeding anyway !
Does pick up some false alarms but you can screen them out and is good in city mode.
Obviously no good for truvello's and the specs? thingy (measured speed over a set distance), but did pick up an unmarked blue transit van in the lakes parked in a layby. Reaction time is a big thing here and the general consensus is that with a laser once you've registered it on the detector it's 95%+ that your speed is registered too, so doesn't really give you much chance to get the speed off.
I was looking at the laser jammer and detector but the worry is will the boys in blue know that you've jammed the gun and then check your car ?
The bel 550 has been a good buy for me and I use it on long journeys, unknown places whether it would save me from a laser I don't know - time will tell !

Do you know anyone who's got one? I've noticed that the Origin B2's are slightly more expensive than the Road Angel 2's, but does a bit more cash mean better goods?

Lake has a b2 while I have an RA2, and we both had the original blue-i beforehand.

IMO the RA2 is a tidier, better built unit, and as the laser and GPS sensors are built in, the installation is more tidy. However it does require dash-top positioning so get GPS signal and line-of sight for front and back laser signals.

However the b2 has far better software and a superior database, it knows the limit for the road a camera is on, so can be set to not warn you if driving legally, it will also tell you the road the camera is located on in case one comes within the front "detection" cone and if on a motorway will not warn of cameras on crossing/adjacent roads.

There is a b2 with a GPS aerial integrated into its crable now, that would be my choice...

I have a B2, had it almost a year linked up to target LRC 100 for the mobile toll collectors and the combination works superbly well for me.
I think the lack of portability of the B2 might make you opt for a different model but for One car men like me, not a problem.

Not as big an issue as it was due to the new b2 Solo unit which has integrated GPS...

does the b2 have additional costs once you have bought the unit, like the RA2 does?

£50 a year for the blue-i and I think the same for the b2.

Not sure if they include six months or a years initial subscription.

You get 6 months with the unit, and I didn't like the solo as the B2 looks fantastic in the cubby hole in the Cerb...very discreet and no leather damage!

I can understand that, having the RA2 as well as a swan-neck mounted PDA for SatNav keeps the dash-top area very cluttered and is an open invite to scrotes.

don't think I have, i'll have a look, and as you may or may not know, the Cerb is now in heaven so I can't take any!! It was mounted right at the back of the cubby to the left and the passenger couldn't see it but perfect eye line for driver...with it being in the dark it was also very easy to read and very easy to spot when it activated as the audible warnings used to be in serious competition with the exhaust!!
