Well the young Guiseley Kids are approaching their 17th, and after a taster session at Merc Benz world they seem keen to crack on with some tuition before their 17th birthday(and I'm keen to stop ferrying them around taxi style)

Any suggestions - our cars aren't really suitable for learning in (although the Cayman has pdk which would make it easier for them!)so would need a car and instructor.

I'm off to do some google searching, but wonderd if you lot had any ideas. (Location somewhere near Leeds)

Tockworth (SP) near York had a driving place years ago with a skid pan and loads of room.

Don't think you'll find any instructors able or willing to give you a go, as they wouldn't be insured, but good luck.

If they are nearly 17, I'd get them their licences as soon as you can and get them on wwith learning the highway code and ready for the hazard perception written part of the test. That way they are geting closer to been able to drive

Tockwith.

They used to have a dual control car that under 14s had to go with an instructor
You could hire it for over 14 year old for you to sit in with

You can also use your own car but can't remember the minimum age
Decent cost for an hour on their "roads"
but some were a bit rough and potholed when we last went

Before I had lessons I did Young Driver lessons which were extremely helpful. They had Seat Ibizas (manual) and you drive around a course simulating real driving hazards e.g roundabouts, crossroads etc. I did mine at Meadowhall but they go all around the UK, not sure about Leeds but check their website: https://www.youngdriver.eu/

Cheers all - the Tockwith idea looks good (youngdriver don't seem to come to Leeds) - from £20 an hour with your own car(what could possibly go wrong?!) or £40 to use theirs to £50 including an instructor. Think I'm looking forward to it as much as they are!

Will get set up with hazard perception and highway code tests too smile

I took my Youngest to Tockwith before she was 17, we drove around their circuit a bit in 'her' Morris Minor. It worked well, even though we did find ourselves parked on top of a mock roundabout at one point. biggrin

Blimey, it has gone up a bit. Used to be £6 an hour when I was 16 (some time ago) and drove round in my mum's 1.2 Astra Merit!

I remember my dad paying something like £50 for a months pass. That was 22 years ago mind.

Easy if you have a field to hand.

Tockwith sounds a great place - thinking of taking my younger brother up there next week, as far as I'm aware there's no age restriction for me as the driver, as long as you've got a valid licence you're fine smile he's wanting the Mini after me so he might as well get some practice early on!
