Beats in-ear headphones

Mods - feel free to move to music if needs be, but I started the thread here as we listen to much more than music on headphones these days.

Anyway, Mrs CP has bought me a pair of Urbeats in-ear headphones. Does anybody rate them/slate them? It's always difficult as you can't just try out headphones side by side to compare. I've always thought they were a bit of a marketing job, but having listened to a few different things on my laptop, from Mozart to Maiden, via Floyd and level 42 (go on, slag off my musical choices if you must) and they sound pretty good. Read a couple of reviews which also seem favorable.

I know that it's personal choice at the end of the day, but just wondered what other folks thought of them?

No they're st because they're popular. I only use earphones made using unicorn horn and snow leaped st.

I know what you mean, I'm up to my arse-end in unicorn horn, but can I find any snow leopard sh*t, it's as rare as snow leopard sh*t that stuff is!!!

I have a pair myself, Solo. They're alright, not too bad but I've heard better, and they're also quite bassy, maybe too much.

I have a pair of Beats Tour, also in ear headphones. I love them.

I found this too, great for 'bassy' music, but not so great for Sarah McLachlan Unplugged...

I got the impression that they were looking for bass, even if the music contained none. I settled on Sennheisers instead, as they were a better all rounder for the music I listen to.

After trying loads I have concluded that Skull Candy are the best by a significant margin. Really disappointed by the Sennheiser ones I had and they lasted no time at all.

I recently bought some 'SoundMAGIC' E10 ear buds. They were £26 on Amazon and sound really very good. Beats are good (my Son has a pair) but they're expensive and 75% fashion accessory.

I have some Beats in-ears. The sound can be varied quite a lot depending on how tight-fitting you have them. Personally I found them way too bassy if you go for a tight fit, so I went one size down on the ear buds. They're quite robust - had them for 18 months now and no problems - Apple's seem to last me less than a year before going off. I listen to a wide range of stuff from Mozart to Slipknot to Swedish House Mafia. I thoroughly recommend them.

Big fan of beats headphones. Audiophiles always comment that they're too bassy. Ummmmm. They were designed that way. Dr Dre is a rapper and rap producer, and the tones are bass biased, so they were made with hip hop / r&b type music in mind. As I predominantly listen to that genre of music, the dre range is perfect, I have beats, pro's and the in ear powerbeats and now won't use anything else. It's all personal preference. If they sound good to you, that's all that matters.

They have a bad reputation but I have never tried them. TO be honest at that price point I would just grab some Shure SE215's, I think they are fantastic.

Not really. You prefer a style of music which suits the headphones. They're not made for general music so you can't say they're great for all music so your review only applies if you love bass heavy music. Most people want to enjoy various types of music. If they want more bass they use EQ.

Beats are fine if you like that sort of thing. If you want decent headphones for a variety of music type then don't buy them. There are many better phones, head over to head-fi or have a look in this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I normally stuck with cheap-ish Sony buds. The 'angled' buds are the most comfortable I've used.

I have Sennheiser as a spare and they are admittedly better sounding than Sony but th build quality don't seem good though earphones aren't when most people yank them out.
