scrapyard find
Discussion
I`ve found a 460SE in a scrapyard.Lovely metallic sort of green/brown and covered in green verdigris etc.Interior pretty non existant.Has the hard top though.Battery seems to have exploded and wiring is a real mess(could have been problem). No engine or box but has all wheels and tyres but sitting on its belly.IRS,hubs etc all there. All panels in good shape considering. They wouldn`t sell me the whole car complete as they said it had to be broken and disposed of.I managed to get the passenger door though.Went back to negotiate and still a no,no!Then offered to buy other bits separately and the boss man had said they were going to power wash it and stick all the bits on e.bay to get top money for them and then have to environmentally dispose of the shell, hmnnn.
Manage to get a bit of info as I got the VIN and engine codes. Was registered in 1991/92 in Darwin, Lancs.Has Harrogate Horseless Carriages on door kick plates.originally had a 4.0l but was changed to 4.6l at 24,000 miles.
Reg number at the moment is a fantastic J40OSE,possibly not what was registered as though.Anyone know anything about this.

Few years ago I was wondering what a DIY carbon fibre doings kit would be like, prices were too much at the time though. I was thinking of making a handy replacement for the ash tray. Milling out a chunk of ally seemed OTT and a waste. Might be worth a rethink though I am not sure it will be any more doable on my scale for me and capability.
The black plastic door thingy, wondering what that would be like in polished stainless or alloy?

It has been suggested that I try to obtain the car in two transactions.buy the shell and ancillaries and then the chassis, which will probably need a rebuild anyway.Problem that I can foresee is if there is a delay or hick-up,jobs worth in the process and I end up with one and not t`other,I will be disposing of it all myself. The door I have already put on here to gauge interest, very straight complete with hinge, mirror, window and locking at £250-00.
Is this too much?
Is this too much?
Do you know this car then.J40DSE.Have you seen it in the breakers. As I was pretty sure that the car I saw was that reg no.but the archivist at TVRCC convinced me that it was J40OSE as it registered as a 400 but with an engine change to 460.Could be trying to find the wrong car.Is there a page number on the readers cars page or have you a link.?
