Renova or Alternatives
Discussion
Has anyone used one of the roof renovation products to change the roof colour? I ask because my rear section is brown and my targa panels are black as the targa material was not available in a brown to match the rear section when the previous owner recovered the panels. Although it looks ok most of the time as the panels are rarely on the car I would like to re-colour the rear section to match the targa panels.

I used the Renovo Soft Top Reviver on a very tired and faded black top when I was restoring my car. The effect was remarkable. The hood looked almost new afterwards (2008). The car has stayed outside in all weathers and still looks good.
I now have a bottle of Renovo Ultra Proofer which I intend to put on before the winter as there are two patches (where the hood creases at the sides) which are now letting a little water in.
This stuff isnt cheap but given the effect and the time it lasts I think it is very well worth it.

I used the Renovo blue on my hood over the winter. Re-colours nicely but the targa panels look slightly shinier than the rear section - may be because the fibreglass stops the dye soaking in as easily? If I was to do it again I would be less liberal with the renovo.
After doing the job you need to hang around the car for 30 to 45 mins because the dye seeps out of the fabric onto the paint / window - it will stain so you have to wipe it off pretty quickly.

My hood was brown from new but a previous owner re-coloured it black with Renovo. I find that I have to repeat this about once a year as the brown will show through slightly where the fabric rubs. This is noticeable where the rear section folds down, for instance. I bought a full Renovo kit and it has lasted 3 years (3 applications) with plenty left. It is a really messy job - just like painting with black ink! However I am debating whether to replace the whole hood (with a black one) or just have the rear window replaced.
