Spent all yesterday morning shining the cerbera up to help at a wedding
Got a half a mile down the road and lost all power
The engine starts ,runs(badly) but any pressure on the throttle causes a stall
On investigation the rocker cover gasket has blown out [literally}
Not sure if this alone can cause the stalling but its not good news
Have been considering a body off chassis referb for the winter so i might bring it forward and get the engine rebuilt at the same time
Worst of all i let a fellow pistonheader down on the most important day of his life

I take it this happened after a good wash?

If so remove the F2 panel and put a hair drier on the coil packs, it sounds like you have soaked them and now have a weak spark as a result.

You can not have damaged a rocker cover gasket by washing it, this sounds 100% like wet coil packs.

Thanks Martin I will look under the panel tomorrow
However the gasket at the front of the cover has visibly blown and is spraying oil everywhere

There is no gasket, its just sealed with silicone and if leaking should only ever really weep - certainly not spray everywhere. This sounds more serious. I'd remove the oil filler cap and check for excessive blow by. If a lot of gas is venting under pressure, it means the compression from one or more cylinders on that bank is escaping. Valve failure????

I have a tvrpower. Composite rocker coer with a tprinegasket
I have been getting a bit of smoke on hot start so valves may well be the culprit

Sorry just seen you have a 6 pot, no experience of those but again not sure why a dodge rocker cover gasket would cause the running problems you have.

I think it's more a case of 'the problem' causing the gasket to blow out!
IE, pressure within the rocker box caused by valve or ring blow-by?

Same symptom, different engine. It sounds as though you have crank case compression which means that the combustion gases find a way out instead of pushing the piston down, basically. That can only really be caused by broken piston rings, holed piston or broken/stuck/leaking valves. Best of luck but doesn't sound like a cheap repair frown

If the pressure is going up into the rocker cover then certainly sounds like valves. The silver lining is that I'd certainly take that over piston problems!

might not be as bad as i thought then
Still i am 2/3rds of the way to convincing HWMBO that we can afford a power rebuild

Crankcase pressure can be caused by, rings, holed pistons, cracked block of head, failed scav pump on a dry sump engine (although that is likely to come with lack of oil pressure too and failing/failed stem seals. Leaking valve seats will not pressurise the crankcase as there is no link between the two areas.
