I have had an idling problem with the chim for a while which I think is problem with the stepper motor. I connected my ECUmate to test the stepper, the funny thing is the stepper only extends whether selecting extend or retract on the ecumate. I have tried a new stepper motor and have the same problem. Has anyone had a similar problem, any suggestion grefully appreciated?

Please describe the problem you are having. I think I have had most problems by now and might recognise yours.

Recently had some problems with my stepper, but it always extended and retracted on Ecumate command.

Silly question, where did you get the replacement from?

I only ask its it's possible to force the plug on the wrong way (if you really try).

Where in Essex are you, you're welcome to try my stepper/Ecumate to eliminate items?

Hi Thanks for the replies. The problem started in belguim on a visit to Spa when the chim wouldn't idle when cold this got gradually worse. When I checked the stepper motor it wouldn't extend or retract. I took a punt on an Ebay £16 special which didn't want to play ball although it did click alot. Next I bought one from an LR specialist this too appears to be a pattern part and does extend, but keeps on extending even when the ecumate is set to retract. I'm in Leigh on Sea in Essex so any offer of help would be appreciated. It may be that I have another duff stepper but it could also be a loom or ECU problem as OBD is a bit limited.

How do you know its only going one way? I dont think ECUmate updates the stepper position if you move it manually.

The ECUmate can drive the stepper fully in both closed and open directions if that's what you mean by manually?

I mean if you overide the steppers position manually with the ECUmate buy sending steps to the motor, (ie take the idle out of ECU control) not physically force it.. wink
