Changing from 1 gear to 2nd (problem)

Can anyone advise me ?

My Cerbera 4.5 ajp is starting to play up, when I change from first gear to second it jumps of second as soon as you put it in ??? It does stay in there eventually! Any ideas ?
The other problem is when you accelerate in first or second and take ur foot of the petal there is a thumping noise under the car ?

Had exactly the same problem on mine a couple of years back, can't remeember the cause but gearboxman sorted it for me.

I think it came to about 300 quid.

Synchro dog on 2nd is worn - your gearbox needs a rebuild.

There have been a few gearbox threads so please can I ask a quick question here rather than start a new one.
How normal is it for our car to not like going into reverse. It goes in but on occasion it grates quite a bit generally more when warm. Sorry to hijack. M

They all do that sir!

usually eased by slotting 5th before selecting reverse.

Yea usually put it in 1st then reverse but I hear that normal !
