Due to limited space in the battery compatment is there any specific make of battery that is a better fit than others?
I believe that type 072 is the correct size.

We got a new Battery about 6 months ago from National Tyres.

Cost about £47 from memory (although if you can I suggest you take the old one along with you & go in another car - they list 2, and we got the wrong one the 1st time round).

I'll check tonight & see what it's called.....

There is no battery out there that can outclass the Optima range, although they do cost 4 times as much in most cases. Plus wont need to worry about flat battery syndrome - its a starter/deep cycle combo gel type.

I'll dig out where I got mine from, different suppliers have different prices - from 200-300.

Cheers Ash, I don't mind paying a bit extra for a decent battery and looking through the type guides it appears the Griff and Cerbera both use the same battery. I bought a Halfords job about 3.5 years ago and it's gone dead on me, which is a pity because it had a 3 year guarantee Just my luck eh? The Griff only gets used weekends and not much in this weather so I have an Optimate but only for the last year and I reckon it went tits-up before that! Also looking at Varta they claim to have some special "Silver Dynamic" jobbie. Any thoughts? Rich...

Whichever battery you go for Darren, I would always use a trickle charger to keep it 'topped up'. Obviously, if you are using the cerbera every day, then fine. Mine comes out at the weekend, so the trickle charger will come in handy.

If you buy an Optima Yellow Top - you can leave her in the garage for a period upto 4 weeks! I have done in the past - and she started first time! And I didnt lock the power key either!... Its the way they're designed - they hold their charge better in cars that dont have good grounding... like glassfibre beasts...
Plus the battery can be shaken or stored upside down, brilliant for crazy driving and its lighter than standard lead acids... (I'm not an Optima salesman by the way)

spent the afternoon at national tyres getting a Varta battery type 072 fitted which turned out that the -ve lug was too high to go back under the wing. Can anyone suggest a make and model of battery that they currently have fitted?

I already said it...

Optima!

The cheapest supplier in the UK (and now I wish I bought it from them! could have saved a few bob!)

www.famousfour.co.uk/foursport/optima.html

If you are in the money - then, get a red top fitted in the front, get an isolator fitted and run some wires to the boot and get a yellow top installed for all your accessories...

or (if you're not into audio and all that)

get a yellow top fitted in the front.

Its a combo battery starter/deep cycle...

Sorry, been stupidly busy here, and no time to surf !

The battery I got from National tyres that does fit (2nd time lucky) was a Unipart GBA3072.

Good luck, hope you get it running again soon !

I'm listening to you SXS and know how good Opitma's are, they are also guaranteed not to leak, ever.

Used to have one in my BM and all it did was power the amps, subs and crossovers.

Oooo, bass, those were the good old days...
