Some time ago a landlord told me it was beneficial to include a gardening service within the rent, not sure what the benefit was other than making sure the gardening was done and having a regular look at the property ?.

Isn't that benefit enough?

Keeps the neighbours happy and one less thing for you to worry about.

Landlord was quite clued up and I got the impression there was more to it tax wise.

I can't see any obvious tax benefit to it myself.

It's not a bad idea though, so long as the rent reflects it. We rented a house some years ago with a gardener and it was great.

Depends who the gardener, or who owns the company employing the gardener, is I would suspect...

I think the landlord did the gardening or said he did...

This.

Plus we also find that it can be quite a good bargaining tool if prospective tenants are wanting to knock the rent down. Instead of reducing the rent we throw in a few hours gardening a month.
