baby seat prep - 06 cayman

Hi all - looking for some advice. Understand that there is a baby seat prep kit for the 06 cayman S which turns off the passenger air bags -

(1) does this also come with the isofix fixtures
(2) does anyone have any experience with the type of non-porsche baby seats that are compatible eg maxi cosi? assume i would also need the isofix base?

not too keen to selling the cayman as have just renewed the warranty for another 2 yrs

Hi Chap,

I can not help you with the specifics- I dont own a Cayman.

However, if you get say Maxi Cosi Pebble (I think) - its has both the base (ISO Fix) and seat belt mounting.

We have the ISO base in the Cayenne, and just use the seat belt method in our E90 BMW 3 series.

The base just makes it easier- the ISO Fix is not a requirement, and have noticed our little one is more comfortable with the seat belt method due to the angle of the ISO fix base.

Provided you can deactivate your pass air-bag (key switch?) OR Porsche mod as per the 996 range, you can fit a rear facing child seat.

If its for a baby I would get the opc to fit both the isofix and the bag deactivation.

The seat I used was the more expensive maxcosi with the base. I then switched the seat when she was 3 years old. I thought it was a good deal as I only needed to buy one in 3 years.

My car was an 09 boxster.

slightly digressing from the Cayman point.. our son out grew his Maxi-cosi (cabrio?) seat by the time he was 8 months old! Having the base to click it in and out of was very easy, but if you have a 'big un' they can out grow the seat very quickly. Isofix is brilliant though. I hate it when we have to use his current seat in a car with just seat belt mounting as it is no where near as solid or reassuring.

the plan is to get a maxi cosi familyfix base with pebble? looks like this option allows for the seat to be upgraded using the same base for longer?

called up OPC - quoted 600 to supply and fit the kit - i asked if this came with isofix and the response was yes...

I had Bournemouth OPC fit the switch & isofix shortly after buying my 2008 Cayman in May this year. They charged me a few pennies over £500 (certainly room for a little haggle on the price). They also gave me a new 981 PDK Boxster as courtsey car and a brief free inspection report on my car.

You get a key switch on the passenger side of the dash (accessable when you open the door), a little Airbag Off light on the centre console and the Isofix locking bars at the back of the passenger seat.

I've only used it with a booster cushion (for a 5 year old) but do not see any reason why any reasonable size Isofix seat / carrier wouldn't fit.

Yes, that is correct. Its all fairly easy klunk-klick these days.

I also bought a pram with the seat fixing points for the maxi-cosi seat, ahh happy days.

My little one loved the Boxster, the hum of the flat-6 engine sends them to sleep very quickly.
