My home (slightly older PC) has been running fine for the past year. Except that in the past 2 weeks, it’s been possessed.

When visiting certain web sites, the PC seems to have a mind of it’s own. When going to Google, PH.com and BBC/news it’s fine. Except that when I open up ebay, after approximately 5 seconds I get diverted to a search engine called, ‘about:blank’.

I’ve run spybot and adaware and both packages removed various things, rebooted and scanned again, verified clean. But as soon as I go to ebay, I get diverted to this search engine, and it changes my home page to it.

Is this a virus, if so which one does it sound like…?

Though in future its probably best to download mozilla's firefox and use this instead of IE.

Could be. But I would try clearing out all the Internet Explorer temporary files and cookies and clear the browser history, see if that helps.

Hijackthis or CWShredder are going to be worth a try.

I cleaned out the IE history and cookies, then disabled ‘accept cookies’ from the privacy setting. Rebooted, and scanned everything, adaware, spybot, etc and all seemed clean. Went to ebay, and it still happened. I’ll continue fiddling around tonight..

Cheers guys...

Another idea is System Restore... it worked for me.
