60th party music

I have been entrusted with creating a 4-5 hour long playlist for my best mates mums 60th B'Day party.

I am toying with the idea of going through the decades song by song.

What are your thought's and can you throw me some must play songs?

I don't envy you with the task you have.

I hit 60 a couple of months ago and the thought of someone putting 4-5 hours of music for me fills me with dread. Personally music from mid '60s to mid '80s is more significant than earlier or later.

Got to be some 90s and more recent in there too imho. If there is only 60s, 70s and 80s music at a 60th's party, that suggests that they lost interest in new dance/party music when they were 37 years old.

Yeah I know the family really well, his parents are like my second parents.

I know she likes all sorts including recent stuff like kings of Leon, Ellie Goulding and Gotye.

4-5 hours is a bloody long time, i used to DJ regularly around the local clubs and bars in my younger years and did a gig for a mates 40th a few weeks ago as a favour -7 to midnight in a function room, good excuse to dust the old gear off jesus, talk about hard work, no one would dance until someone came and asked for some really random 90's stuff which I would have never played in a million years. All you can do is read the crowd and play comes along. I have my whole vynil collection transfered to mp3 and even with 9000 tracks to hand it was still hard work.

Luckily I'm not DJ'ing as such. I'm just putting together a playlist to put on iPod and play through the room they have hired speakers.
