Does anyone know if you can get Excel to perform a simple function on a load of selected data?

I've got a table of about 200 number which all need to be halfed in value. Can Excel so this and if so how?

cheers

Can you not just do a simple sum?

i.e lets say your number to be halved is in column A cell 1, next number to be halved is in column A cell 2 etc. All the way down the page.

So if you put a formula in column B cell 1 that say's
=sum(A1/2)
this will halve the value and enter it in the cell B1, you can then just copy the formula (click and drag) it to the last figure you need halved.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers Al, but unfortunatly the table not a simple column of numbers but a grid of numbers which all need halfing. Any other ideas?

Type 0.5 into an empty cell anywhere. Copy that cell. Highlight all the data you want to change, then Edit-> Paste Special -> click the Multiply radio button under "Operation" and press OK. Voila.
