I bought a dark metallic blue Chimaera from a salvage yard. It has been through a hedge backwards and had front and rear bodywork damage. The salvage yard have replaced the bonnet, the fibre-glass section below the bonnet and the section below the boot, but they have left it with a rough finish and just primer for paint. There are scratches on all the body panels so it needs a full respray and a lot of bodywork to get it looking it good. It has grey interior and is in good condition apart from the body panels.

I have quotes ranging from £1600 for respray in the same colour, up to £3K from a bodywork shop that I was impressed with (he had a Griff there that he had just done a full restoration) where he will do all the work to get it looking good and paint it any colour I want. I'm going with the £3K deal because I was impressed with his work.

I have owned a blue chim before, and if I wasn't getting it fully resprayed I'd be happy with the colour it is, but I've never owned a red car and when I look at pictures of chims online the red ones always stand out to me. I really like the idea of bright red paint but the the problem is the hood is dark blue.

I've seen on ebay I can get a black hood for £350, but what about the Targa (hard bit of the) roof? Anyone know where I can get a black hard top for a chim?

Or should I just paint it red and keep the roof blue? Anybody got a pic of a red car with a blue roof? Google only comes up with toy cars - probably because they look so bad.

Is the roof blue or navy? I'm confident navy would look good with most shades of red but the lighter the blue, the less certain I'd be.

Have a chat with Tim at ACT you might be able to go from blue to black with a Renovo product.

The roof is navy blue. I'm tempted to leave it blue to see what it looks like against red paint and only change it if it looks really bad.

The chim is the 3rd car in the fleet and it will only come out if the weather is good enough for the roof to be down anyway so 99% of the time you will hardly see the colour of the roof.

Personally I can't see it working but I'm sure someone on here must be good with photoshop and may want to play....

PS - the hard top section can be recovered to match a black roof if you buy a new roof.

Why not buy one of the 'Surrey' folding roof sections - then you can have any colour you like

I tried but Tim at ACT is on holiday until the 23rd. Has anybody tried dying their Targa roof to black?

Surrey folding roofs seemed a bit pricey (£475+VAT+P&P) and you still need to pay £350 for the plastic part.

TVR owners handbook says "Monza Red"

Paint code under the bonnet is P 460

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the paint code. The respray starts at end of August and finishes end September. There is a lot of bodywork that needs touching up and smoothing so its gonna take about a month.

I'll post a pic when its finished, in red, with a navy blue roof. Then we can see whether its a disaster or not.
