I am sure there are lots of interchangeable kit car bodies out there.
It occurred to me that as we now have available hundreds of sad rusty kit cars sitting in sheds all over the country that they may have a place in the future of kit cars.
These may be past their sell by date and need a full coat of looking at but if they are registered the saving is £450 on the IVA fee before you start.
A new body, a full renovation, an engine swap, steering, suspension and brakes upgrades are all allowed without being called in for IVA. Replacing rusty chassis rails is permitted and provided any mods do not include the main chassis then your good to go straight for an MOT with emissions levels allowed relating to the registered year of the donor. There are complications if you do not use enough of the donor via a points system but that said there is an awful lot you can do.
So how about new kit car designs based on a tired 7, Dutton or a low cost Cobra?
As was said on another thread, it is said in Complete Kit Car magazine this month that the concept car that will appear at the Donington show on the 24th/25th this month is based on a 7 type chassis. Food for thought. Any suggestions?

A lot of "low cost Cobras" I fear are now living in the guise as very good replicas, I know personally of one, and a fair few Duttons have already been rebuilt into other "7" type vehicles. In both cases only the chassis plates being used.

You mean similar to the MK HSR/Indy and the Tiger Avon/GTA or if you are so inclined a Striker/Phoenix ?

If I were in the market for a car then I'd be very tempted to get an older pinto MK and then re-engine with a nice all ally 16v (1.7 Sigma comes to mind)or possibly a BMW straight 6 depending on the size of the engine bay (to be more authentic)and then add an HSR body.
